idk if this is the board to post about this (forgive me if its not) but, i think the wiki needs to be updated more often. I enjoy reading it but it annoys me that some of the pages are incomplete/empty. Id do something about it myself if i had been around long enough to have the knowlegde to fill in any extra information :(

i had an idea pop into my head when i saw that there was no proper AIDS page despite their being a link made for it.
it's not very well thought out; the only description to it would read "it can happen to you too!" with pic of sum guy sperging out as the page picture. haven't gotten around to it because a) too lazy to maek wiki account :v and b) i think the idea just ain't lolz-worthy. feel free to expand on this idea or replace it from scratch as you see fit.

>Id do something about it myself if i had been around long enough to have the knowlegde to fill in any extra information

this is partly why i don't do any edits on the wiki to begin with (AIDS idea and laziness aside). i'm no oldbie (or oldfag, whichever term you prefer) so touching most of the links listed under https://wiki.heyuri.net/index.php?title=Special:WantedPages would feel like roaming through uncharted territory that has been mapped already by an explorer from eons ago.

I wish there were more than one or two regular editors. I am scaring expecting everything from certain power users would tire them out in longer term

I say just make an account (takes less than a minute...) and start editing whatever u feel like. Maybe that will inspire other users to contribute too, but really, any little edit one makes is appreciated as things are now.

I believe this has brought up enough times to have a separate discussion for.
First, a little Heyuri history: >>61043
When kuz was still the admin, our moderation (me) always had to follow a set of written rules for my actions. It's not because he wasn't trusting in my verdicts, but wanted users to have a reference of "not to do"s so they wouldn't end up receiving a warn/ban despite trying to follow rules. So he gave me permission to modify the rules (by this time, I was responsible for almost all moderation actions anyway) as I wanted. I then edited the rules in a way that allowed me to act by "tips" page when I wanted, while modifying it as well.

Since then, kuz resigned and entrusted me with Heyuri. I didn't do any major changes (...I think?) afterwards, but my approach to moderation isn't strictly by written rules.... There is no point in explaining our moderation in depth, now so I will keep it short: I am for modifying the tips page smile

Starting by the very old "TOP TIPS" part:
I think this part was just put up when kuz was having fun lol, but there are two points I can slightly disagree with:
>OLDER IS BETTER, OLD GIFS, OLD ANIME, OLD IMAGE MACROS, OLD EVERYTHING. USE THEM HERE!
Anyone can understand they are more than welcome to post about old stuff on Heyuri just by lurking a little, but telling it this way may make newcomers mistaken Heyuri for some kind of a retirement house rather than a website for creating tons of new stuff.
>PROTECT YOUR NAME, USE A TRIPCODE!
People can use tripcode if they want to, but trolls who try to impersonate users will probably end up getting banned anyways nyaoo-closedeyes

The rest of that part is just fun

Moving on to "How to use Heyuri (for dummies)" part:
While one may agree with what's written, the long explanation about what Heyuri is about is redundant and I believe it was put there because Heyuri was constantly called as "oldfag circlejerk" by some groups. Of course, putting that up didn't solve that...
Anyways, coming to "HEYURI-TANS RAZOR V2!", it was originally written by kuz and I later heavily modified it. I believe everything I wrote there is applicable (except 8th point about 2ちゃん perhaps, pirated stuff shouldn't be uploaded there apparently but that's another story)
If you are curious about my reasoning, I explained them at the post I linked to above too.

BUTT!!!

Now I am open to change the page and perhaps move some points to FAQ or elsewhere.
I could either
- Remove the rest of the page, only keep the 8 points, and change Rule 10 to something like "These are all the rules. Now you may want to take a look at some of our tips"
- Remove all the page, merge some of the 8 points (namely 1, 2, and 7) into our FAQ.
- Whatever u guys suggest rolleyes

Another interesting stat is the total number of unique IPs that posted to /b/ over the course of the past week: 96! sweat

Of course, a percentage of that is going to be VPNs and dynamic IPs, but it's still a pretty big number!

>Any idea what the highest activity of the tear was? Or at least the past 6 months or so?
Nope - regarding IPs, I can only look back at posts that are still live on the board, and /b/ currently only goes back about 2 weeks sweat2

Best I could do is calculate the average posts per day using post numbers & dates found in whatever archives and screencaps have been made, plus whatever I happen to have written down from previous calculations

Lounge@Heyuri
Good evening Heyuri.I've had a minor epiphany about myself, and maybe about human psychology in general. You be the judge.

Earlier today I was arrested. It was a minor infraction, and I was out in an hour.In that hour I conducted myself the same way I usually do when I'm in trouble. I glared, I folded my arms, I was forthright, exceedingly so--I was even a little bit funny. It was my first time being arrested, so I was kind of freaking out, but generally I think I projected an air of being at ease, even a bit dismissive of the whole thing.

Contrast this with my usual behaviour. Let's say talking to girls. In that case I'm a pansy. I avoid their gazes, I fidget around, I stumble over my words trying to say the right thing. My jokes are shit, assuming I even attempt any.Sometimes I even break into a nervous sweat.

Now why is this? That I can be so bullheaded in the former situation but so cowardly in the latter one. Well I was thinking that there must be two types of confidence used in different situations. Offensive confidence vs Defensive confidence.

Offensive confidence to me is that confidence you use in pursuing your own goals, things you don't strictly have to do but can if you like; liek the example I gave of talking to girls, though it can include stuff like making friends or pursuing business deals or something.

Defensive confidence is the sort you use when you've been put on the spot, like I was at the police station. When you have to keep yourself together so you can defend yourself you can put it to use. Some people really start gibbering when they're put in an uncomfortable postion. Not so with others.

So what, do you think it's legit? Have you noticed something like this yourself? Which one is more developed for you?
>>
I wrote a reply, but I am not confident enough to talk about my personality so I deleted (´ー`)
>>
I only talk to people through the internet. Hooray for internet! ヽ(´∇`)ノ
>>
Hell it's OP again. Actually that defensive confidence thing might just have been an effect of the fight or flight response. It could be that when It comes down to it I'm a fighter. Which is why I can't access that kind of self-assuredness during less stressful situations.

That sux. Imagine if I could talk to girls the way I talk to cops. I would slay.(;´Д`)
>>
Behaviors and actions are not set in stone - we have the ability to change them! ヽ(´∇`)ノ

If we want different outcomes, we can choose to act differently. If we want the same outcomes, we can choose to fall back on previously learned behaviors and habits. Either of these can be positive or negative depending on whether the outcomes are beneficial to us or not

Always remembrar: actions lead to emotions, emotions lead to thoughts, and thoughts lead back to actions. If you feel liek you're stuck in a negative loop, you can break the cycle and develop a new one by changing one of these stages - actions are easiest to change, so it's best to start there. Once one of these stages changes, the rest will soon follow suit (´ー`)

It sounds like Rule 8d can easily be abused to censor light hearted and valid banter in order to protect the feelings of an individual rather than being used to develop an environment that provides funny random posts like /b/ is supposed to be. If Heyuri is about replicating the old internet landscape, i dont see how this rule helps nurture that.

>without even having the decency to provide LOLs

'LOLs' are subjective, a mod's sense of humor shouldn't be the barometer that constitutes whether or not something is funny.
This is also specifically about the Rule 8d, all other subsections of Rule 8 are understandable.

>I first started using /r9k/ in 2009 and it wasn't vehemently misogynistic then. In a drive to create OC many people contributed greentext stories, which often consisted of stories of awkwardness and rejection that were amusing. Later that morphed into misogyny and self-pity threads which are cancer.

I beg to differ self-pity and feels were comfy.

>As for when it really went to shit, it's hard for to demarcate a year from my memory that /r9k/ became complete garbage, but it was definitely shit by 2015. Elliot Rodgers frog memes and >tfw no gf was not the peak of /r9k/ in my opinion, the peak was around when I joined and people still called each other "gentlemen" and there were always greentext stories.

I agree Elliot posting the beta uprising poo poo pee pee and tender stories were cancer but that stuff was still funny.

IMO /r9k/ started going downhill when the e-whores showed up and Reddit showed up and started taking screenshots in 2015 and in 2016 when the discord shit showed up on the board as well as the trannies and /r9gay/ shit.

The board always had a decent amount of normals on it but the majority of the posters were lonely virgins. It was after 2016 when most of the virgin posters left and the board became mostly normal judging from my memory.

I've messed around with enough archaic BBS scripts to know that there's no way it's much harder than opening the script in a text editor, searching for "No.", and putting some form of space character before the "N" as many times as needed

Hell, you could even just use CSS:
.postnum {
margin-left: 0.25em;
}

Maybe, but kokonotsuba is a very unique software that is centralized across multiple websites... Putting it superficially, I only have access to some of its arms, but not to its heart (the part I need to modify) due to some bug unrelated to me.

I didn't think of fixing it with CSS, but that would be only a temporal fix. That bug will probably get solved soon (if the word "soon" doesn't seem reliable, I will apply that CSS fix if it's not within 24 hours) anyways and I will then look into it more seriously then

One thing I especially love about anime is how it can transcend
political correctness, and touch certain taboo social issues that we
cannot touch over in America. Let me give an example of what I mean.
In the Ranma1/2 manga, Akane once takes a strength potion by accident.
Not surprisingly, she's loving every minute, being able to beat Ranma
in arm wrestling, but he keeps on trying to anyway. However, when she
finds that the potion is starting to turn her more masculine, and
starts growing facial hair, she picks staying feminine over strength.
It ends, though, with Ranma repeatedly beating Akane at arm wrestling,
and her still trying.

Ranma ain't my favorite manga/anime, nor is this my favorite Ranma
story, but it shows why I love anime & manga so. Rumiko Takahashi is
able to such on some prickly topics, and see the humor. Feminists
over here might call her a traitor, but what is truly liberating about
having to show everything as we want them, not as they are?

She is queen indeed.

Of course I'm not talking 4chan as a whole, but specifically the boards that form the outward face of 4chan. What a cesspool! Everyone is always screaming "NIGGER NIGGER FAGGOT FAGGOT TRANNNYYYYヽ(`Д´)ノ". They talk about black guys so much that I wonder if there isn't some sort of suppressed lust lurking just below the surface. Most of that crap isn't even half funny, are they even trying or have they just given up?(Sigh)
This is why normalfags think that sites need domineering moderation to be any good.(;´Д`)
>>
The anger started out as a tongue-in-cheek "gamer rage!!!11one1" thing, and there were more than a few series of image macros and more where the joke was to have an over-the-top, outlandish, expletive-ridden outburst over some GODDAMN MUTHAFUKKIN BITCHASS mundane/innocuous thing

There were also many LOLs had at old racist stereotypes, like A. Wyatt Mann cartoons (BIX NOOD), shopping watermelons and KFC into images of black people, and SHOOP DA WHOOP - there was rarely any serious racial hatred behind it, it was just funny because it was taboo and comical

Eventually the old rule about "getting laughs from pretending to be idiots will attract actual idiots who mistakenly believe they're in good company" kicked in, and those who saw all the jokes and thought "haha! I too hate niggers, I've found my people!" began to make up a much larger percentage of the userbase

Combine that with everything that happened with /pol/ and the widespread censorship of the rest of the internet/society - as well as paid teams of bad actors trying to make things look even worse than they already were - and you've got yourself a very large group of angry and humorless imageboard users! ヽ(´∇`)ノ

This is a subtle tendency, so it will be hard to describe, but have you ever noticed the way that the Net has descended into endless flattery? Basically, have you ever noticed how much everyone is sucking up to each other? It seems like before, in an earlier era, people said what they felt pretty shortly and directly, and most of all confidently, without seeming to have taken others opinions into account before hand.

Nowadays a lot of internet posting seems to lumber around unsure of itself, afraid to be too harsh, too judgemental, or too definite at all. If you try and speak with authority you get cut down for being too strident. People are in a constant struggle to not "seem pretentious". The only exception seems to be for a few non-negotiable acceptable targets, like pedophiles. You can give whatever strident opinions you want in that case.

Basically, a person can no longer say a plain and simple "this sucks". If they say anything at all it's "I don't really like it" or something milquetoast like that. I think the greatest barometer of this shift is the reaction to various elements of the 2000s.You remember right? Nu Metal sucked , reality shows were awful, the music was garbage. People hated the celebrities back then, like Nickelback or Paris Hilton. Now, all of a sudden, all that stuff was just 'misunderstood' and no one can remember why they hated it. They speak with a certain horror about the times when people admitted that shitty things were shitty...
People wonder why Nickelback got hate, people wonder why that crappy Spiderman movie from '07 got hate, and Paris Hilton... It's so weird. I actually remember this weird trend of people mentioning her on Twitter and apologizing for thinking ill of her back in the day--how much of a suck-up can you be??(;´Д`)

Yes, I think music is where this shift is felt most strongly. You can't say ANYTHING about music without a caveat or a concession anymore. I remember watching this old movie, and in one scene, a guy is playing some music, but his buddy rips the album out of the music player and says "You shouldn't listen to this crap--it'll make you sterile." Very brief, very authoritative, with no caveats or concessions---EVERYONE used to talk about music like that.Everyone used to talk about ANYTHING they had an opinion about like that.

I'd say this is just another vagary of the mainstreaming and corporatization of the net; the Net is in use by everyone now, even the most intellectually fragile, who think a negative opinion is like a forcible enema. In a way it's instated this banal sort of 'polite society' where you're not allowed to ruffle any feathers by calling shit shit-- unless everyone else is already doing it.(´ー`)
>>
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
That's just the influence of moderation, and people actually caring about moderation because there's this idea (accurate in some spaces) that it'll reflect on their lives and the things they actually value.
You can go into any lobby on the planet that people don't care about what the owners of think and immediately get the strings of vulgarity from the good ol days.
>In a way it's instated this banal sort of 'polite society' where you're not allowed to ruffle any feathers by calling shit shit-- unless everyone else is already doing it
But that's already how it was. The precedent assumption was that everyone already was calling everything shit; people were too cool to like things, now they're too cool to hate things. Same shit, different day, like christian housewives and their bluehaired daughters.
>>
Plenty of people speak with authority on the net today, but it's either on places like this where there's few people around and no accountability, or it's some ret0rd keyboard warrior on twitter (´∇`)

On places like twitter, youtube, etc., there's also a lot of algorithms now that push overly negative comments to the bottom (or hide them entirely), and promote overly positive comments to the top. Take a look at how many of the top comments are all kissing the uploader's ass in a very unnatural fashion next time you watch a youtube video, it's crazy (´∇`)
>>
mob culture; you go against the mob, you go down.
>>
It's not that you aren't allowed to call something shit. What people find to be shit changes overtime with society and the culture. In the 2000s it was Nickelback Paris Hilton and Emo and Scene kids but nowadays people look back on those things and think they weren't that bad and today it is Tik Tok influencers Gacha kids and snowflakes, and overtime people will hate something different in like 2030.
