What a shit mindset, this is the kind of thinking that is the reason why all technology is endlessly getting worse and worse. no one is willing to take accountability for anything, it is always just someone else's fault, not yours.

There is literally NOTHING wrong with the software heyuri uses.

I'm not in support of dropping our current software, nor dropping the scripts we were using b4 kokonotsuba should it become completely nonviable - this was a thought experiment about the purely hypothetical scenario where none of the above options were viable (which isn't actually that hypothetical since we've had to move scripts a couple of times before) closed-eyes2

And the problem is that Heyuri doesn't even have "ONE dude to fix them ONCE", as stated by kuz and kaguya many times over the past year and a half. You should read the previous townhall logs, where any and all ideas, feature requests, bugfixes, etc. regarding kokonotsuba and Heyuri were shot down across the board due to "lol no developers". And while kuz and kaguya have been able to fix certain things in the past themselves (usually after a lot of pressure and persuasion...), they will not always be able to do so - either due to not having enough l33t sk1llz, or simply being too burned out or busy with other things

If you lurk a little moar you'll also lern how we've been affected in the past by vulnerabilities and hax0rs - hell, it was only a few weeks ago that the entirety of /b/ was nuked via a lone MLP spammer, and that's far from the worst we've ever encountered

Heyuri was once forcefully taken offline and considered DEAD for 3 months in 2020 after a nefarious actor with root access took over and deleted the entire site after having already spammed the shit out of it for over a month after having already destroyed the hard drives of our previous servers causing us to lose an entire month's worth of heavy development on our (then) new script, not to mention all their social engineering and intentionally causing rifts among Heyuri's former staff cry

The ONLY reason something like that isn't happening on a more regular basis is because nobody with the ability to do so has been trying. That's it. All it would take is another skiddie to get butthurt over something, or decide to use us as target practice, and Heyuri will be deader than /dating/ once more. That's the cold hard truth, and that's why using a popular script used by several other sites who have already faced and resolved these problems has its benefits, should it ever come to that

I also recommend taking a look at our Strange World and Oekaki boards, which are both running on open source scripts maintained by individuals outside of Heyuri - all we have to do is occasionally update them, which isn't entirely painless, but it's leagues better than trying to discover and patch problems ourselves (especially given that we've had ZERO actual developers behind Heyuri for the past year and a half)

Hi im from a different website and im trying to gather information about your previous owner, kuz aka Kuznetsov. Its virtually impossible to find credible sources talking about him and what hes done recently, and everything anyone says about him is contradicted by another person, hell, even what he says he contradicts himself later.

Recently it seems he paid off the owners of a lolcow.farm to surpressed info about him, more specifically a supposed redpill that he is not actually named Kuznetsov, and all pictures of him are fake. There was a recent leak of a VK account that showed kuz is a illegal immigrant (from or to?) the netherlands, whos real name is Cornelius van Derstel. No pictures of him, but some of his wife. Anywho, any info about this?

Also im not expecting a deletion because kuz doesnt own this site anymore and it would be very suspicious if the admin deleted this

It used to work, but at some point kuz moved Heyuri's image storage to his CDN on a different, non-Heyuri domain, and web browsers now block initiating a download if the source file is on a different domain to the one you're viewing, so it's just kinda b0rked until someone moves our images back to heyuri.net or can implement some other form of fix dark

Assuming the banner rotation script is just picking a random image from a directory containing all the banners (in other words, the paths and filenames for each individual banner are not hardcoded into the script itself), wouldn't it be fairly simple to set up a simple imageboard or uploader script that stores its source images in that directory? Isn't that pretty much how /banner/ used to work?

that wouldn't be really hard to do. making a queue for admins to approve banners should be a pretty easy to do, and you can easily check if there are duplicates with md5 checksums

As for emotes... I wouldn't mind more "joke" emotes like tehegg added in a special occasion or sage, but I want a uniformity when it comes to expression emotes like anger or sadness, and yotsuba is doing it great biggrin

Maybe (but only maybe) in the future, if we grow tired of yotsuba emotes, I may consider changing them to a similar set of emotes (at least as a trial) if they fit Heyuri.

"Moar emotes" doesn't necessarily have to be the typical happy/sad/angry faces - and NOTHING should EVAR replace the Yotsuba ones!! (I was against even the Heyuri-tan edit idea!) sweat

What I had in mind was more like having a variety of additional fun/cute pixel icons, like these:

Australian Haruhi has a point, but I don't think its necessarily a bad thing.
Politics boards get a bad rap from the 4, but I think that one mostly sucks just because it is populated by loads of Dunning-Kruger types and general knuckledraggers.
There are plenty of examples of world/international boards where people can discuss politics/world events, but still maintain a good nature and have fun.

The Heyuri Historical Society is back! and on a better domain and with better software. HHS was previously a wiki which documented Heyuris history and culture but was poorly managed by a 3rd party and ultimately shut down. Now its back, but officially!

Its community editable, so we encourage everyone who knows a thing or two about the site to make and contribute to pages. Theres currently a known bug with the visual editor but we'll get to it soon.

You dont have to write about just Heyuri, as the HHS is also about BBS culture in general, feel free to write about your favorite japanese board or the history of strange world, its all welcome there!

Attached is a screenshot of the old pages on HHS, some of which have been remade already.

Some pages that should be worked on:
Kuz (admin conflict of interest)
Kaguya (admin conflict of interest)
Heyuri page (has an in progress history section)
Strawberryheaven
Kokonotsuba (perhaps other heyuri software too?)
Perhaps a helpful links page, etc

Also in this thread we should discuss policy and tone. Should we set guidelines, or just let people write however? What tones should we encourage people to follow when writing? What should be considered off topic?

All this and more, on Heyuris FIRST official wiki and the return of the Historical Society.
