No. I'm an open-minded person and would eat a lot of weird dishes but I would not touch that fuckin thing. Kill it with fire.

Why do Chinks like eating things that nature is basically screaming at you not to eat?

that looks equally as gay as eating a hotdog but far healthier since it's not made from little pieces of 100 different animals scraped off the floor of a butchery

or, kaguya's failure to have radical, revolutionary, and important ideas (RRII)

Kaguya is widely praised for his adminship of Heyuri, and he certainly has made alot of improvements. But something important is missing that the previous administrator did not neglect: expansion. Kaguya has not purchased any sites, and has not, despite repeated ignored emails, founded "KagyNET" - a spiritual successor to the other K-Net which we will not mention.

Now I am being serious, as the constant acquisitions and other activities of the previous administration are what brought Heyuri fame and attention, take the Vidlii influx! Even today, Heyuris new users still come from sources originating from the Kolyma era (such as the spacehey loli invasion)

Heyuri is doing good in all aspects, except that the idea of its 2 founders (to grow, capture new audiences, and become ever larger) have been neglected! Kaguya, is the ultimate "quantity over quality". Look at old newsposts! In their words, I personally set "4chan 2004" as my goal in terms of activity on Heyuri.

and its not just a lack of acquisitions and outward growth, but his allegiance to the old style of imageboard thinking, his failure to think outside the box, and his failure to risk unpopularity with radical ideas. Think of all the failed and successful experiments of the Kolyma Era, that was indicitave of radical thinking that is absent in kaguya!

...

Now I know kaguya isn't exactly wealthy, but I know this is now the reason for his failure to have RRII, the problem is deeper than that, and I think his lack of RRII comes from some sort of pathological fear of failure.

I end this message with a request that these complaints be addressed, that kaguya take a more active, expansionist stance, and that new, young, and radical minds be introduced to the sites leadership.

Thank you for your time

>He rejected the doomsayers who viewed imageboards as a dying format that would never catch on with the young generation. He disregarded endless complaining about "n00bs like me" and sought to build from the ground up, a new generation of young imageboard users who would match and surpass the percieved golden era of imageboards back in the 2000s.

I wonder how it is even possible? I'm old enough to use Win 98 as my first OS. Over the years I've spend countless hours using Web 1.0, IRC, XMPP, etc. I remember the life without a smartphone or the mobile web. But even for me the concept and design of the sited looks dated.

Teenagers nowadays use Discord. Discord "servers" (as they call it) are basically modern-era imageboards. Some of them are really wild! Discord is trendy. It has everything a modern user expects: a native mobile app, a desktop app, a voice chat, "modern" design, etc.. The userbase is large, basically everyone's using it. And you don't have to wait for a reply, you can get an instant attention. It doesn't work well for long-term discussions - but most imageboards are about quick shitposting anyway. And attention span is ridiculously short nowadays.

I just can't understand how are you going to contend with such an established service? How a niche site with an outdated interface can gain any attention at all?

Mind you, I'm not a Discord user myself. I just get why it's so popular.

At least initially, Heyuri didn't contend with dicksword but instead utilized it to our advantage

During teh lolico era, Heyuri had an active dicksword where staff and users would hang out and chat (I never joined it personally, but it was well known and linked here on the site) and it was also the primary place for staff communications. There was webhook set up so that there would be notifications on dicksword every time a new post was made to the website, which is how Heyuri managed to have near-immediate replies on par with sites 10x or 100x our size. Note that messages were also relayed between our IRC channel and teh dicksword, although that feature b0rked at some point

As you might expect, teh dicksword became a source of drama and internet slapfights so at some point in the post-lolico era it was relegated to being for notifications only. It recently got shut down bcuz it was registered under the same account as gurochan's - or something like that. Whether or not it should be brought back (for post notifications only) will likely be proposed at teh upcoming Townhall

>How a niche site with an outdated interface can gain any attention at all?
Many younger people are intrigued by what came before them; many older people have fond memories of what once was

Discord is just a chatroom. Chatrooms have coexisted with message boards since the beginning of time.

We love and support dear leader kaguya

discord has an expansive featureset that ends up making it much less like a traditional web chat service and much more capable of completely supplanting the site it gets attached to

A suggestion I can make from personal experience is to use a masking layer so the drawing reveals itself rather than stretch out through the screen. Another fun thing to test is to make a play button show up after it loads (copy and paste the frame and add a play button)

All of you BBS hackers of Heyuri, where have you learnt your Perl? I want to learn Perl to make/modify CGI scripts. First I thought I'd go over the "camel book", but now it seems way too long and detailed for my purposes, and I've been thinking that perhaps some web resource would suit me better.

>All of you BBS hackers of Heyuri, where have you learnt your Perl?
ah i should have awnserd. trial and error trying to help /cgi/ with new stuff and already knowing programing. i want to learn perl as its kool and openbsd supports it natively fully (there pakage manager was written in perl) and i thought there would be a hand full of jobs maintainng this shit
tho i never used it on openbsd. and setting up web shit for perl sucks, i thought there would be ton of guids to get perl working with nginx or apachie (since it use to run the whole web at one point) but there is nothign and it a pain.

another thing. cgi just means commen gateway interface. and what that means is. user parameters come from std in and html goes std out
so you could write c programs and put them in a cgi bin and have them execute and work. https://learnbchs.org/
>>
why did CGI scripting die off anyway? it seems perfectly serviceable for software like this
>>
>>147988
program in perl and tell me! cgi scripting is not bad. php is still cgi. its the most simplest way to make dynamic pages. but outside of nginx or apachi.
ppl use different web servers with there own way, like go's web server or flask in python or spring boot's web server. each still do read http protocol (witch is still plane text, u can use telnet and see) and put raw text and get raw text out, they just digest it all difrently and its more frame work centric then just using any old language and reading stdin and pumping stdout.aka the frameworks dont think of it as stdin and stdout. shit even lareval a php framwork, its just so far from thinking and using it in a stdin/stdout way that you prob could not consider it to be cgi with how you have to use it

>>
>why did CGI scripting die off anyway? it seems perfectly serviceable for software like this
I don't know teh technicalities, but it seems to have inherent limitations regarding "live" updates and things of that nature

Here's something from teh interwebz circa 2018: https://www.perl.com/article/perl-and-cgi/#why-not-to-use-cgi
So, why did CGI drop from “state of the art” to discouraged by its own maintainers?

There are two big issues with CGI: speed and complexity. Every HTTP request triggers the forking of a new process on the web server, which is costly for server resources. A more efficient and faster way is to use a multi-process daemon which does its forking on startup and maintains a pool of processes to handle requests.

CGI isn’t good at managing the complexity of larger web applications: it has no MVC architecture to help developers separate concerns. This tends to lead to hard-to-maintain programs.

The rise of web frameworks such as Ruby on Rails, and the application servers they run on, have done much to solve both problems. There are many web frameworks written in Perl; among the most popular are Catalyst, Dancer, and Mojolicious.

CGI also contains a security vulnerability which must be coded around to avoid parameter injection.
>>
>>147994
>Every HTTP request triggers the forking of a new process on the web server
look up fastcgi
>it has no MVC architecture
framework issue not a protocol issues. see php and php larevel
>CGI also contains a security vulnerability which must be coded around to avoid parameter injection.
u have to do that anyways in any lang where you want to save and use user data.

it being "slow" or not scalable is quite retarded. take any modern nu web app vs some ol cgi bin, it rapes the nu web app in speed over and over.

now the issue with it being live (or i assume reactive/restful, that is just mixing js with some json end point)cgi can do that. now if you mean websockets, yeah cgi cant really do that and its not really even http to begin with but you can use websocketd and its basically the same as cgi scripting as you read std in and send msg to std out
