Heya! ヽ(´∇`)ノ It's been a while! Sorry it took so long! Truth be told, I only read at work, and I've had a lot of work to do, so I couldn't get much reading done. I guess you haven't read it so recently by now? :P Anyway, I really liked it. Books, especially good books like this one, never fail to arouse very strong emotions in me. I'm not really sure why. I hate it because it means I have to take frequent breaks, and that didn't help my reading speed either. I took all day to read the last 30 or so pages today for example because I was so overwhelmed with dread I just had to take a break every few pages and stretch or do some busywork.
But I really liked it! I liked it from start to finish. I especially liked that it wasn't a lesson with a moral, a main character, or a "good guy"/"bad guy". It just reads like a story from someone's life; not dark or light, just the grey reality of what happened as it happened. Excellent stuff. The writing was clean, to the point but still with enough artistic flair to remain interesting and fun to read, everyone that mattered was very well characterized and enjoyable, I really cannot think of a single bad thing to say about the writing. It was about as good as it gets, especially for a short story like this. When it comes to the more subjective analysis of what actually happened though, I'm not so sure what I'm supposed to think. Like I said, this reads like a "real" story, but much like with real life I just can't really find a clear lesson to take away from it all. It's not like anyone was inherently in the wrong, or did what they did because they were pure evil, and if this was meant to be a cautionary tale then what was it cautioning against? I really just don't get it┐(ﾟ～ﾟ)┌
Regardless of my lack of understanding though, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was engrossed, I was emotionally affected, I enjoyed every page. That's what I think of it

Glad to hear you enjoyed it so much! I can relate regarding the emotional impact of books, I have actually slowed to a halt reading the third book in the series due to that exact reason. The sequel is also very good, but isn’t a romance. From what I can say so far, the themes in the series become more evident later on.
