Just as the literature and movies have their own Canons, so should VNs! What are some essential VNs, that anyone who wants to even discuss Visual Novels as a medium, MUST play beforehand?

Higurashi and Tsukihime are obvious picks, but I'm going to also add Ever17, Muv Luv, Clannad, Saya no Uta and, of course, the Rance games. What else?
