While Futaba is not as active as 4chan when you take every board into account, Futaba's Nijiura may board still has a higher PPD than 4chan's top 3 boards (/vg/, /pol/, and /v/) combined

Local models are only restricted by what they've been trained on. Something like Big Lust (search on civitai) can generate almost anything general. Models based on pony diffusion can handle more bizarre stuff based on booru tags.
NoobAI and Illustrious are anime models can generate everything of the above + lolis (realistic models are not trained on underage images for obvious reasons, although the original SD 1.5 model apparently got some of that leaked into the dataset).
It takes time to understand how to use all of this, but it's fun.

If you're only interested in anime images, NovelAI is probably the best you can find. Completely unrestricted and anonymous, for a monthly fee.

I think it's the same for everything else. I have fond memories of the internet and computers in general circa 2005-2010, but looking back, I feel like I barely scratched the surface at the time, maybe because I didn't have the awareness or knowledge that I have now or because I was a dumb teenager who didn't know how to have fun like I do now, or because the things you could do with a computer were much more limited. In that sense I feel like I can indulge in 2005-2010 computing much more easily now than back then. It's all still there and much more easy to access. Nothing much can be done about the people but at least now the internet is full of old dudes who also miss that time. So instead of crying that the good old days are over, I seek places like Heyuri.

Does it seem like whenever a small site gets a massive influx of new users, it is almost always certain that it gets ruined?

The only reason I feel it hasn't really happened here is because of the moderation team and because lolis are a strangely effective repellant.

Apart from everything else already said in this thread, I think one of the major turning points was when youtube added a dedicated in-house system where you could (somewhat reliably) make money off your videos. That then leads to full time youtube video making as a job, trying to maximize views for money, trying to do whatever it takes to maximize views and so on until now.
