why is zelda talking about himself in 3rd person?

When I go to watch anime downloaded on my computer I often forget which episode I am up to.

Does anyone else have this problem, could a video manager of some sort which tracks whether you've seen an episode or not be the answer?

QMplay seems pretty good, but how do you display watch history?
>>
If you use terminal to play videos - as long as you don't close the terminal, you can simply read what is the last command you ran on that shell. If you close, you can check your bash history or use a tmux session just for playing anime videos

I need to be able to close the terminal.
I use the terminal for a lot of other stuff so I would be going through those too.
I need to be able to restart my computer

There's a file attribute on Linux called atime. On many if not all desktop environments it shows up as a "Last accessed" column that shows when you last accessed a file or directory. I'm on KDE and I use that to check what episodes were opened in the same timeframe.

me too (๏พŸ่ก€๏พŸ#)

Sometimes at a social gathering or a drinking party, theres a girl who seems kind of out of place, sitting on the sidelness and not really ap art of the group. She might quietly say something like. 'i can see spirits.' She might say something like, 'Look, there's an old man with white hair standing in that corner'. Well, that's the kind of thing she says. The mentality of young people hinting at suicide feels somewhat similar to that, in my opinion. At social gatherings, this girl lacks what you might call 'weapons'. For example, beauty, conversational skills, charm--those qualities that would be effective in a gathering like that. She doesn't have them. So, as an easy way to assert her presence, she says, 'I can see things'. She's saying, 'I have this special ability'. Saying 'I can see' becomes her weapon, compensating for her lack of beauty, conversational skills, or charm. Whether it's true or not, only she knows--but if it's real, then it's no small thing. So, the peole around her make a big fuss and focus their attention on her... Saying 'I want to die' as an appeal is, in that sense, the same as saying 'I can see things.' Even though the truth of it is somehting that only she knows, it becomes a form of appeal that others can't just ignore. If you look at those so-called 'suicide-related websites' that were once a hot topic on the Internet, it becomes quite apparent. The posts on the message boards of those sites often take the form of 'asking for advice about their troubles', but in reality, they're saying, 'I'm someone who is troubled and contemplating suicide.' It's a form of self-promotion-- 'this is me'. On those message boards, they're often quite verbose. Most of the posts are fairly well-written and are clearly written with the intent of being read by others as a kind of entertainment. It's not the same as drunkenly scribbling 'Die, Dean!' in a train station bathroom. If you look at the trends like the boom in creating personal homepages, it's clear that humans have a desire to promote themselves, a yearing to talk about 'me'. However, doing so requires a talent that sets you apart from others, and acquiring that talent demands effort. For example, if someone wants to draw attention at a party by declaring, 'Tomorrow, I'll build an atomic bomb and destroy the Parliament!'. that statement requires a certain level of believability or realism. It would need the person making the claim to be someone from a science background or someone with conn

when young people talk about dying or such things, well, it's essentially the same as how we used to get into philosophy or well, politics back in the day. Reading Descartes or advocating communism, for example--it was more about adopting the persona of 'someone who engages in philosophy' or 'a believer in communism.' It was an intellectual style, really. In short, it was a fashion.

Why do people still call these types 'alternative'? Goth girls today are as popular in the mainstream as the Gibson Girl once was. And they look about as Victorian, too :emo::emo:
>>
I actually think there's no longer any such thing as an 'alternative scene'. Such things, as they are popularly understood, relied on a certain venue (club, city, town etc) which clustered previously disparate tendencies in one place until suddenly people felt something particular taking shape--basically by accident. Whatever obscure needs or artistic itch was once scratched by the formation of such groups is now handled remotely and in many differing venues dedicated to many different audiences. This is both far more convenient for the individual and far less conducive for the formation of a 'scene'.
>>
Trad goth like this still is fairly rare to see irl truthfully. Either way, like >>189969 pointed out the internet boiled down so many disparate subcultures because people arent materially limited by access to records or zines or to people with a common ideological framework. Instead they can grasp out wherever they want and pull from many subcultures at once. In this sense "alternative" can be a usefull moniker for this type of person, as it points out this (sub?)culture essence as it should be understood as, hyperreal punk culture. "alternative" exists as the SIGNS of punk/goth/emo with none of the body, no scene, no music, no ideology.

Where i push back against >>189969 is when they say
>there's no longer any such thing as an 'alternative scene'.
because there never WAS, at any point, an "alternative scene" but separate punk, goth, emo, post punk, hardcore, screamo whatever else scenes. I also push back against the larger idea that there is no "scene" anymore. There are still many places for punk, hardcore, screamo, and emo. I personally have hosted too many shows to count in my own and friends houses, and played probably 10x that amount. That being said there has been a STARK shift post covid in the size of shows, number of houses or venues hosting shows, and a clear movement toward solo projects and online "scenes" mostly focused around discord servers... Esentially this materially individualizes people who otherwise have a common ideological framework, and that is hurting "the scene" as a wider concept because there no longer is any sense of gatekeeping a scene ideologically which is how you end up with consumerized "punk", showgoers having no respect for bands or venues or eachother (tangential but god i fucking hate crowdkillers, literally individualism materialized. die.), and a focus on appearances rather than actual diy-ing. This was all exacerbated by the nuke that was tiktok spawning a million kids who think theyre punk coupled with what was esentially a massive retirement of scene oldheads post covid, and now all these kids have no one to show them the ropes. Couple this with post capitalist realism too and you end up with so so so many random bands regrouping, so kids dont even form new bands they just fork out insane money to see the Boy Problems reunion or whatever. All of this culmimates with, the festival industrial complex (another essay for another time) with its 10,000$ diy band garuntees and side skirting new bands for reunion bands.

I'm usually fine with horny jokes but it actually sort of unnerves me the sort of desperate sex cult energy that surrounds goth chicks these days. It's especially jarring because I still remember when people just thought they were the weird fat kids you didn't want to associate with.

On a more positive note, it remains only counterculture left un-subverted by corporate greed and normalfag politics. I don't want pedophilia to be normalized because then a huge segment of the normalfag population will start identifying as pedophiles and it will be hard to find places where genuinely free spirited individuals congregate.

Anime has always had lolicons and in the 80s they even started making lolicon anime, do they know their anime history? When you are researching about 80s otaku culture or just anime, of course you will always come across the lolicon boom, plus Ran looks more childlike and acts childlike in the anime and manga, her fanclub are lolicons too, they just used the 1991 movie Ran or OVA , moe characters have existed just not the term, i can say Osamu Tezukas works are very moe!
