Suicidal ideation becomes a lot different if you realize that they are just a symptom of depression the same way a running nose is the symptom of a flu. There is nothing different about them that makes them unlike any other symptom. They are not part of you, and not part of your rational thinking, they are part of an illness that can be treated.

Of course this only applies if you have depression, but that is what it seems like.
