I've been thinking about a cool concept about an immortal hired gun working for the devil, where he gets assigned horrible tasks to fulfill based on their clients. These clients happen to be highly depraved, societally outcast, or plain old evil. Some of the topics I'd like to cover involve cannibalism, feederism, the classic "pedo", human trafficking+mindbreak, child soldiers etc.

The catch is the guy is more or less unemotional and doesn't particularly react or care about things he does(in fact an interesting choice is to have him be mute). The more interesting thing is how he goes to achieve the tasks the clients request of him, and how society reacts to his actions, along with the direct conflict between individual clients and whatever authority is dispatched to handle the issue. In a way, the clients and the police/SJWs/whatevers that oppose them are the ones where you build a backstory and character arc.



You can have the guy work for clients with highly erotic tastes, painting a degenerate scene where they do whatever, and talk about how they want the guy to help them do something illegal or something. If I wrote it I would add additional scenea of violence and brutality, but that might be what you want. One interesting thing is to choose whether the guy suceeds or fails in his tasks, and how that changes the client's further motivations and actions, along with how others react. Also you can draft up new characters each chapter, focusing on them as "contracts" with different clients across the country.

I've been reading a bit about writing in the 19th Century and one thing that struck me is how derivative it was. As you know people at that time had major respect (though starting to decline) for the Old Masters and part of your learning was to copy from their work very directly so you could pick up the right techniques. This applied to writing also. For example Oscar Wilde's writing was known by his contemporaries to be heavily influenced by French modernists and certain English forbears--to the point of being accused of plagiarism. For example his book 'Portrait of Dorian Gray is based of a french novel with a similar theme called 'Au Rebours';

"The publication of The Picture of Dorian Gray in 1891 revealed the main influence quite definitely, for, apart from the fact that Wilde's novel
bears many obvious echoes of the most remarkable of French
decadent novels, the A Rebours of J. K. Huysmans, which
Arthur Symons has called " the breviary of the decadence,"
it contains the following passage which, although A Rebours
is not named, is generally understood to refer to that book,
even if the fact were not otherwise obvious
:

"His eyes fell on the yellow book that Lord Henry had
sent him. What was it, he wondered. He went towards

long-term archival is hard and you will probably need to move your shit to other media over time
you will also want checksums and redundant copies on the media - if you do end up in the unfortunate case of dealing with actual bit-rot, it likely won't affect every single file

one big thing too is for shit you've downloaded - you want a big list of filenames, original post IDs, etc (and this is very easy to back up to way more places than your main data pile), so if you did end up losing them, you can maybe attempt to get from another source (maybe even the original source if you're lucky)

even ordinary optical media can last decades while reading fine (in particular, I have burned games from like 18 years ago that verify 1:1, at least for anything where I still had the original files to verify against)
but cheap media like what I burned isn't really rated for more than like 10 years, so I could have issues at any time and I'd have to suck that up

it's all just kinda difficult for your collection of media to definitively last over a normal human lifetime
and if you want some information to be preserved for the ages, etch it into stainless steel or something and bury it lmao

Stone or metal engraving is the way to go. That shit endures for so long, the cultural context necessary for decoding the meaning of the engravings will probably disappear before your data does.

You could engrave the binary in a typical Macworld shareware CD on 2 tonnes of granite tablets in about a week.

I think we should commit Heyuri archives to about 5k optically-readable Titanium grade 5 plates coated with vacuum-fused sapphire ASAP. It should last for at least a few millennia as long as a large enough asteroid doesn't hit the Earth or there's a pole-flip.
