Yeah, like others have said, avoid everything new (at risk of becoming insular, if you care about that), try to hold on to what you can and move forward in spite of it all. Its an unfortunate thing, but Time does not seem to care for our feelings.

Slight tangent, but I dont know why some people take it upon themselves (even on this site, we've had a couple threads like these before) to try and convince people who have a longing for the past that things weren't that good, that they're looking at things like the old internet through rose tinted glasses, etc. Which is just funny to read on heyuri, I thought trying to bring back aspects of the old internet back one of the reasons behind this site's existence.

I think its important to have these threads once in a while because it reminds us of how good things were, and to give us sort of a goal to aim for, you know, like that one quote some might have seen on a poster in their elementary school classroom: "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars!".

Yeah, I suppose it can get old, this longing for the past stuff, and maybe having a direct return to the old internet to then have things stagnate there might turn out to be really boring, but to try and say that things weren't better then than they are now is just a complete lie.

Personally, I think things like that are part of a grand psyop to get you to accept the shittyness of today's world. But I am prone to paranoia and schizotypal thinking, so... grain of salt.

I don't know if this is true, but it's like they keep insisting that there "needs" to be a "trade-off" between the amazing communities of the past with horrible internet speeds and file capacities, and the horrible people in the present with lightning fast connections and huge storage sizes. Why must there be?! Why can't you have the cool forums of old with the amazing servers of today?

>Personally, I think things like that are part of a grand psyop to get you to accept the shittyness of today's world.
An even worse idea is that there is no psyop because there is no one planning or controlling this. That everyone mocking you for ""nostalgia"" isn't being paid off by a grand conspiracy, and that there are people on the internet that genuinely believe this and are willing to spend time and energy to make sure you buy into it as well.

>they keep insisting that there "needs" to be a "trade-off" between the amazing communities of the past with horrible internet speeds and file capacities, and the horrible people in the present with lightning fast connections
I'm one of the anons that said something like that in a previous thread, and I was simply comparing the past to the present, not saying we can't have both now. I remember someone else saying they would actually take a one way trip in a time machine to the past if they could. Remembering the bad things about the past helps you enjoy the present more, and all the time spent complaining about how much better communities were back then could instead be spent posting fun things here.
>>
>>164577
it wasn't objectively better, it's just that the things you like were peaking back then. I've been thinking about it recently and there's pretty much no point in becoming an anime nerd past 2007 or so. It hit its high-water mark in 2005 along with a bunch of other subculture bullshit.
>>165025
>Why can't you have the cool forums of old with the amazing servers of today?
Because the money and effort poured into making the Internet fast was meant to have it everywhere all the time in everyone's faces. I don't mind having slow, old shit and I don't get why younger people insist on having fast everything (´¬`)
>>165028
>all the time spent complaining about how much better communities were back then could instead be spent posting fun things here
That's a problem I have with other, larger websites: every time something fun happens you get about five posts in before someone starts bemoaning the modern times and saying how "old" the post feels. I can't stand it! Have fun in the moment!

Is that so? I believe the guy was enchanted by how surreal it can be and simply got inspired and poured this love into a game. I pronounce it a kusoge though :nyaoo-closedeyes:

I would not play it while tripping, way too unsettling, unless you specifically seek a psychotic episode but that is not healthy and I do not recommend it, all mental suffering in my entire life combined would not compare to one hour of fear and psychosis earlier this month

I think that playing this game instead of truly enjoying that state is lamer in comparison because wall behind the monitor is melting like an iceberg and about to fall like berlin wall, or looking at my greasy keyboard because fingerprints on the keys seem to zoom in infinitely like a microscope/minecraft dropper, my hand is constantly gaining and losing wrinkles, light of my mouse felt like a bar code scanner or a whole sea beacon if I looked at it from a distance

Honestly it is quite hard to even tap the right keys while you are one foot in Narnia and second foot in reality, it would be hard to play this game, I would get frustrated and spin shapes inside my head while drooling face to desk instead because it is more fun
Stars during night can be spun like figdet spinners by the way, it is so fun because they spin just for me because I kindly asked them to spin, and they sprinkle you with cosmic love while doing so too and if you wait until sunrise you can observe 5 suns rising at the same time

The older I get the more i realize stuff from just 10 years ago has been scrubbed from the internet. Web pages or boards, images and stuff. Search engines suck and it seems like things dont actually stay online as long as you might think. That can be a good thing but also pretty bad. Many images i used to see posted on image boards pretty commonly cant be found anymore. I think, if you like something a lot, try to save it, because the internet isnt as permanent as you think. ( ´_ゝ`)

Also, consider this: solid state media can lose data if left unpowered for long periods, its not ideal for archiving.

I found someone on Soulseek with a folder featuring a full (?) archive of Sonic Warfare, a site from the ancient internetz full of weird/annoying/mysterious novelty music from other countries. Songs that might be called "cursed" in modern parlance. Here's the folder on WeTransfer if anyone is interested... it's only up for 3 days so get on it:

(This is a long but very important post, please read it all)

Do you know the song "Californication" by Red Hot Chilly Pepper?
Well, I believe this song has a lot of hidden themes that have yet to be discussed even though I didn't bother to look up if someone has discussed these before. I am a self-certified music analyzerer or however you spell it so my post is 100% certified for truth, let's begin:

"Psychic spies from China try to steal your mind's elation"
This line is a very well hidden reference to China interfering with elections, can you see how "elation" and "election" are super very similar words? I think RHCP is currently being blackmailed by China and this is the only way they can bring light to the matter. The word "Psychic" itself has a lot more meaning, this is RHCP trying to tell us that China has managed to create Psychic soldiers like the ones in F.E.A.R.

"And little girls from Sweden dream of silver-screen quotation"

I... don't think that's quite what they meant, but you're on the right track in some places. :sweat2:

I understood the term 'Californication' and all other verses coming before and after to mean the erosion of culture and rampant unchecked exploitation in the United States all for the sake of chasing the almighty dollar.

The bit about psychic spies from China is probably just another fantastical element to allude to California's status of being the center of fictional entertainment, that is, Hollywood, LA. Or, like the line about Swedish girls dreaming of silver-screen quotation (they're hoping to one day star in a movie that gets popular enough that it's quoted by everyday people in the same vein as Star Wars), it also alludes to foreigners; this time referring to ones who are portrayed in American media as evil mysterious outsiders with an agenda to subvert the US government. At the time the song was written, 1999, the Soviet Union had long been dissolved and its successor state Russia 🇷🇺 was busy fighting yet another war with a breakaway state - not to mention suffering from an horrible economic crisis. It had long since passed from the minds of Americans as the foreign bad guy, so that role had shifted to the remaining big (nominally) Communist nation: China. 🇨🇳

>This is reinforced by "is this your chin or is that war you're waging?", to celebrities the lives of innocents are worth less than their chins so they wage war by killing them, disgusting...
I don't think it's meant so literally...
Rather it means that celebrities are held to such a standard and marveled in American society that the news is filled with vapid nonsense about every time one of them so much as farts in public meanwhile actual tragedies get glossed over. Remember it wasn't that long ago some scandal about Johnny Depp's wife shitting her bed was all anyone ever talked about for a few months. Perhaps celebrities themselves aren't as much at fault for the spotlight constantly shone on them, as much as it is the media. But then again, if they're aware of this then why don't they do something about it? Could they do anything about it?
