I have a folder on my bookmark bar where i keep a list of imageboards. Just ones i visit from time to time or ones that i dont even visit but just exist (and arent complete shit).

I went through it today and literally 80% of them were gone. Most of them were dead, no name sites, or gimmicks/passion projects that lost passion. But damn, alot of "altchans" are dying out. I am starting to think that "Starting your own imageboard!!" is a dying trend, and it definitely was a trend for a while. Id say so at least

This is true. I think that earnestness marks the turning point for feelsguy in particular.
Early on, feelsguy represented the feelz of the person posting him, and there were several variations depicting him happy, weeping, etc that were not egregious, because they were earnest, empathetic depictions of emotion. I like these ones.
Then at some point, people started making depictions of feelsguy that were unflattering or even mocking. These aren't tools used to describe feels, they are weapons used to belittle your opponents or piss them off. See the crying pink wojaks, smug wojaks, soyjaks, chudjaks, etc.
I've noticed that this type of internet meme has become much, much more common on the internet in the last decade, correlating with the decline of authenticity on the net and the rise of layered irony.
People these days just can't be themselves on the internet, so they make memes to bully the ones who try to be. And even the ones who try to be themselves will hide behind a mask designed to make them look cooler, like being "the Chad". Surely this whole game where no one can be truly genuine is bad for the spirit, right?

Overall the phenomenon is kinda sad and I'm not sure what to do besides hang out in places where it's not allowed.

I think most people are being genuine, but they're too familiar with this kind of internet culture and have a hard time shedding it unless there's a b&hammer hanging over their head like the sword of Damocles. Don't call them liars, just call them weak-willed (・∀・)

Loss of anonymity, flood of normalfags thanks to the combination of smartphones, and big social media have balkanized the internet. Everyone is now cut up into more and more inane and vapid tribes connected to your real world identity. Since most of these centralized platforms are US based, the internet has become more and more Americanized and retarded American racial bullshit, culture wars, and psychotic politics mean everyone is locked in these vain tribes with cult like behavior. Memes suddenly become weapons people use to attack other tribes or drag people through the mud. Sure, holy wars and memes as satire/attack aren't new, stuff like the Linux vs BSD thing and neocon bashing is very different from today where everyone is hostile and everyone is expected to fall into one or another fixed group with predictable behavior. Everyone is constantly trying to suss out if your part of their tribe or not and they always suspect your part of some other group. You cannot make a post anywhere on the major internet sites without someone attacking you based on a prejudgement.

Fun is no longer the objective in meme culture. It's attacking people of the other tribe or throwing chum out to your own crowd. This is the main reason it sucks today.

As you read on the front page, I can use some ideas for the activities to prepare for the day. I am willing to spare my time to work on them, as long as they are within my capabilities. If you are willing, you are more than welcome think of stuff that doesn't specifically need to be prepared by me too - traditionally it's the classes who decides and prepares these "activities" in Japanese high schools. We can also just make one big project like a class each year too, although that's more risky since collaborating for one goal was proven to be too hard in the past.

I'm 65150-san, no definitive date for Heyuri-tan quest, I got other stuff to deal with.

If I were to host a quest, I think I would probably deliver once per day. That would give moar time for anons to give ideas, and most importantly, for me to maek good quality drawings. Threads enter autosage in a 7 days, that wouldn't be long enough for me, I can't do it in a day like robo-kun-sama.

I considered multiple possibilities:
-create a new thread every week. Depending how on long the quest takes (i have no idea!!) it could be a pain in the ass, I might have to make a recap pic every time: I think one important point of a quest is the clarity, if anons get lost or forget what happened, it would die.
-mods use their superpowers to increase the thread lifespan, or at least modbump once in a while. Sticky might be too much. sweat
-Hosting the quest on /o/, but not many people go there. （ ´,_ゝ`） Also the interface isn't optimal.

What do you guys think?

Also, robo-kun, what could have been elegant penguin-san's role in your quest? I'm dying to know!

I recommend disabling the visual editor entirely in ur user settings and just using teh l33t editor - it's a pain 2 lern at first, but in the long run it causes much less table raep & other bad formatting issues sweat2

In my prime I could approach 70 without stopping with very good form. at that point I'd start trembling and reach that thing where you'd go down but not be able to come back up no matter how much you exert, without a little stop. I've plummeted probably to 20 now because no upper body exercise in ages, but I'm going to fix that. I've heard swimming is a good full-body exercise, and would be far cheaper than my priority choice which is ring gymnastics.

i have struggled with the ideas in this thread a lot. i know purposely exposing myself to the constant flow of horrible things in this world is never going to help me, as i am just a neet that has no real effect on society and all i care about is what food to pick up at at the grocery store based on what looks yummiest and which anime and manga to consume, so why should i make myself feel more miserable over things i have no control over and that will never really affect me? i can't get invested in world politics or even my local politics, i don't educate myself on it and i never vote. no matter how many people try to convince me that it's the end of the world if X person gets elected and they will utterly ruin my country, nothing in my life changes. something deep down in my brain tells me that living only for my own pleasure and comfort is deeply wrong, and i am pathetic for not caring about my community and the wider population at large, and i *should* feel something, but i don't know what i should feel, how i should contribute.

i wish i didn't feel so bad for just living my life in comfort and simplicity, just eating food and watching old anime and meditating like buddhism anon was talking about (people have lots of misconceptions of what meditation is, it's not even inherently spiritual, its simply observing your passing thoughts and entering a mindful state) because i feel very content with my life. but i feel guilty that i am not integrated into society. yet being part of society means i need to care about so much horrible stressful things and have to be updated with all the current horrible events or else people will think i am bigoted or lazy or "part of the problem" and ostracize me.

What I'm saying is the system is making you feel like shit. Its called learned helplessness. You know despair used to be one of the seven deadly sins? Don't loose hope and don't beat yourself up. That's what they want you to do.

Being integrated into society isn't the same thing as being part of a community. Integration just means being an atomized cog in the machine. Community is good and making things or helping out feels good. I mean, even just hanging out on Heyuri and contributing feels good. Just because it isn't something productive doesn't mean its worthless. I think Buddhism is a good path (actual Buddhism not that new age stuff) and maybe you should find your local Buddhist temple and just volunteer to help out there.

I cut out all media in my life. I dont watch movies or shows, play games, no social media, no TV, I dont even browse the web normally, I havent even been here in a month.
But it doesn't get better. I thought it would, but if anything the dark pit becomes more consuming and frightening. Besides reading books which tires me out a lot, I've basically got just hanging out with friends, who are all hooked on the aforementioned shit. See I cannot even talk about this feeling with them, the last time I did they thought I was depressed and suicidal. You cannot carry on in this way if they frame it as coming from a mentally ill person, it falls on deaf ears. Or like, they do receive it, but in a super-diluted shallow way, which is even worse. You know what they are gonna respond but you know they are a hypocrite as well. Ties back to the whole feeling of artificialness, simulation in real life... I HATE IT.

The real cause of the malaise is social retardation. We are scared of socializing yet we crave it at the same time, as it has always been. But now we have built ways to simualte the socialization at a lower quality, with the tradeoff of near-zero risk. This anti-solution to the problem is not unfamiliar and can be observed elsewhere acting in an economic fashion.
I mean you could seek out people insulated from this, maybe tradespeople or homeless people. have fun with those types, can't even string two coherent sentences together most of them. What a real sorry state to be it.

This is a novel word-combo I've not run into before.
Social retardation... I see it gaining some traction.

Usually I write it a different way, such as "we're of little use to one another"
or "we have little to offer one another" especially when you're competing against
corporations that create fizzle-pop sparkles for a trance.

It's worth challenging the "crave of socializing" – one could encompass it to
a crave for something more than simulation, which doesn't necessarily require socializing.
Socializing can enhance, but it requires a foundation.

In conclusion, not only is it hard to do much of anything with one another, it's also hard
to compete against the full experience of BEING in the world rather than VIEWING the world.
i.e. to feel the shore winds, rather than images.

Today I stole an item from a grocery store.

Why?
Because I wanted it, and I did not want to pay for it. Compounding my decision, was the certainty I had, that I would get away with it. No one would stop me or even notice. No one would punish me. I desired to have that item, and it would not cause me any discomfort to "do the wrong thing" and take it without paying. For what reason then should I not have stole it? My parents would tell me that an omnipotent spiritual being known as God, may one day enact justice for this and other sins I have committed, but I personally do not believe that. Some may tell me that it is morally wrong, but morals, rights, and rules are merely imagined barriers. If no one sees me do it, then from the perspective of these imaginative boundaries, I did not do anything at all.
