In the other hand, for example in mathematics, the distinction between learning and taking information in is clear. You can memorize formulas, but can also learn the reasoning behind them if you want to... But most of the time you don't need to, there are just too much to learn (;＾Д^)

I've been reading "how to read a book" by Mortimer J Adler and he says that to learn something is to "elevate yourself from a state of understanding less to a state of understanding more with the help of someone who knows more than you about a certain topic" while being informed about something is just memorizing facts. To know about a topic means to understand why that is so, how it came to be like this and how it relates to other topics.
