It's been discussed & polled here several times and was even brought up at teh most recent Townhall - the general consensus was that it would likely only inspire stupid fanboy flamewars & 4/g/ culture

Tech/programming topics can be freely posted to Off-Topic, Lounge, Strange World, and Chat (DevChat if Heyuri-related), so there's no shortage of places to do so

i like technology but idk what to say most of time, ive seen some very successful threads on off-topic and lounge that are about technology, the interest is there, and your thread will be enjoyed, even if it doesnt have a dedicated board..

That generally happens because they're looking for attention. Here are a couple of threads up right now in /j/:

>i have so much shows and anime to watch and so much manga to read...... i cant possible get it all in b4 summer ends.... its too much....

>Ozzy Osbourne is... is dead!

>I think boys should date other boys!

>My friend is in her tarot card phase and now she wont shut up about her predictions and tarot youtubers. I'm ok with tarot but I'm sick of hearing about it

>this site needs more yuri

Those are good threads that don't give away or rely on the gender of the user. All of which could appear on /b/ and no one would bat an eye

>i dont think dead threads matter all that much, if someone wants a fast paced site
Activity isn't the main issue. /jp/ is still conceptually justified despite not having many posts. Same goes with /lounge/, comparatively.
It's all about purpose. There 4 different porn boards that almost no one uses. Why?

>>
>An overboard was created because there were so many boards, that doesn't mean there should've been that many boards in the first place.
It was the overboard that came first before any board additions were considered

kokonotsuba not having an overboard at launch was why 2020-era Heyuri's boards got axed in the first place

I would like to add a feature to Heyuri (configurable on a per-board basis) that allows the OP of a thread to be identified in the thread with a marker next to his name that says (OP)

It would be a useful feature  Would heyuri integrate it if i made it?

yeah like that is exactly the purpose of a tripcode to begin with.
>>
i think a feature like that is really only good in places like 4chan where there is a lot of samefagging, manipulation, etc.

A place like heyuri doesnt need that. if an OP wants to be OP they can specify it, if not, then they should have the choice to be anonymous. :closed-eyes2:

Can we have a report widget attached to posts? Makes it easier to communicate things like the pizza decaying at the very top of /c/ right now.
>>
>Can we have a report widget attached to posts?
Stuff liek CP spam gets dealt with the moment one of us checks the site. Without some kind of "desktop notifications" feature, we wouldn't see the report until we were already checking the site anyway - at which point the report becomes redundant. It just gives us yet another thing to look at and manage, which we really don't need :sweat2:

If u see that kind of material left up for more than 10-15 minutes, the current best thing to do is head to Chat@Heyuri and mention it there - staff-san are usually lurking, and it makes a "ding" sound when new messages come in
>>
>>69025

I decided to list our banners at https://heyuri.net/index.php?p=advertise for other websites to use when linking to Heyuri.
...but we seem to have a lack of banners :sweat2:

How u decide to design is up to you, but some cute 2D girl (I think Japanese often draw such CG themselves, but it should be fine to get them off old booru posts or 2D Cute board; or our own higher quality oekaki pics) and a pretty font is what a lot of Japanese otaku-muke sites seem to do
I couldn't find a good collection of them on the internet, but you can view a few examples @ https://m-pe.tv/u/page.php?uid=99tdtd8532&id=13 or https://moeeki.net/rori.htm

200x40 is the one I know that we're lacking, but feel free to submit any other commonly used dimensions, they'll all be listed on that page ヽ(´ー`)ノ

Besides the usual 88x31 buttons and 468x60 full banners, these were also very common standards back in teh day:

- 120x60 (button)
- 125x125 (square button)

- 234x60 (half banner)
- 728x90 (leaderboard)

- 120x240 (vertical banner)

Just because something exists doesn't mean that there's any demand for it :sweat2:

To get anything even remotely close to Heyuri, you need to pray that a lot of stars align (in addition to putting a ton of work in) - we didn't just click our fingers and have a userbase appear. To just scratch the surface, you'll need to:
- be lucky enough that there's an exodus of users from another site you can provide a new roof for to kickstart things
- hope that some of those users become equally as passionate as you about your website and have them pour a crapton of effort into it over several years
- have the experience/skills to avoid all the various pitfalls and "people problems" that will come your way
etc.

>how can i make 20chan grow?
It's a bit like a newbie athlete asking how they can win an Olympic medal. People can tell you to tie your shoelaces properly and practice a lot, but there are many factors beyond your control that will (more than likely) prevent you from achieving what it is you want to achieve - unless you happen to be very, very lucky :sweat2:
>>
Ive never made my own image board, ive only moderated for a different image board in the past.

But i would recommend if any site is starting, probably to start with as few boards as possible, like.. just 1, and then expanding those boards as users grow.
It would be easier to manage for you, and it will also feel more active when youre just starting.

Heyuri is a great site, and gets good traffic but even with the limited boards it has, its slow sometimes, so if your usership is less than heyuri's you should probably have much much fewer boards - for now. :kuz:

Can this place please consider removing the length of time for threads where they become unbumpable (or extend it to 2,3 weeks? It's especially frustrating now that /b/ goes back many months, and you can't continue the convo on an old thread you find interesting because no one will see the reply. This is not, IIRC, how old image boards used to work, and I know Heyuri is about being a bit old fashioned. It's very stifling to conversation to always have to make a new thread for the same topic, plus it adds to more threads being made which doesn't keep things neat and tidy.

I am replying to a thread talking about VPN use / Japanese IPs / Futaba Channel, but the thread did not move up the board:
https://img.heyuri.net/b/koko.php?res=148225
>>
No
>>
DENIED!

The relatively short time-based autosage on Off-Topic is intentional, and is there to inspire the rapid creation of new threads as opposed to propping up the same old stale ones for weeks/months/years. This is a core tenet of the board, and makes it more exciting/unpredictable like Futaba's Nijiura and other classic fast-paced imageboards. The old threads are just there for lurking/reminiscing purposes

Either make a new thread on Off-Topic or post to Lounge if u want a long-term discussion

Fun fact: it used to be set to 3 days, but we increased it to 7 during a particularly slow period several years ago. If anything, we should consider reducing it... ヽ(`∇´)ノ

I don't think it deserves an autosage as it is, but I also dunno if there were posts deleted in that thread. If it's only >>68916 , it could be just deleted IMO
>и какое правило это нарушает?
Rule 7 - Insulting countries isn't b& in itself (even though teh discussion may be likely heading to R7 territory), but I'd delete it for trying to derail a "cultural exchange" thread into politics

Also, while foreign languages aren't banned when there is any situation that justifies it (topic being related to languages/the country, having a reason to suspect the user you interact with can speak the same language, etc), note that posts replying to an English thread in a non-EN/JP language out of blue may be deleted too
>>
Cuz like all the other Russian threads and subsequent "why was X deleted?" spam/rule 9 attacks lately, it's just one fagg0t (OP) pushing a single topic as much as possible and being an retard about it when told to give it a rest

Teh thread had ran its course and mainly consists of ghey nationality trolling by one person, so there's no need for it to keep being age'd. I'd do the same if Rule 9ing fags were repeatedly posting/bumping Turkish threads, Polish threads, Swedish threads, etc., but those pplz generally understand the concept of "too much"

I am complaining about the muderaator who keeps deleting my post in my own thread on lounge

I am light heartedly calling another poster low iq. at first i was just joking but since the mod deleted it i posted it again and then got banned for rule 8 (???)

And yet, in my thread, rule 1 isnt enforced. Selective moderating much? In serious threads - be serious. Remember that? If it is deleted again, I will be lodging a complaint personally with the Better Imageboards Bureau
>>
A post like "low iq individual above me" directed at a long, serious reply is deep within Poe's Law territory, and it seems multiple staff-san have baleeted it of their own accord. Heyuri demands u come up with a more LOL-worthy way of saying it

>And yet, in my thread, rule 1 isnt enforced. Selective moderating much?
Yes - Rule 1 is basically ignored unless u explicitly invoke it, while Rule 8 is strongly enforced wherever it applies

or, kaguya's failure to have radical, revolutionary, and important ideas (RRII)

Kaguya is widely praised for his adminship of Heyuri, and he certainly has made alot of improvements. But something important is missing that the previous administrator did not neglect: expansion. Kaguya has not purchased any sites, and has not, despite repeated ignored emails, founded "KagyNET" - a spiritual successor to the other K-Net which we will not mention.

Now I am being serious, as the constant acquisitions and other activities of the previous administration are what brought Heyuri fame and attention, take the Vidlii influx! Even today, Heyuris new users still come from sources originating from the Kolyma era (such as the spacehey loli invasion)

Heyuri is doing good in all aspects, except that the idea of its 2 founders (to grow, capture new audiences, and become ever larger) have been neglected! Kaguya, is the ultimate "quantity over quality". Look at old newsposts! In their words, I personally set "4chan 2004" as my goal in terms of activity on Heyuri.

and its not just a lack of acquisitions and outward growth, but his allegiance to the old style of imageboard thinking, his failure to think outside the box, and his failure to risk unpopularity with radical ideas. Think of all the failed and successful experiments of the Kolyma Era, that was indicitave of radical thinking that is absent in kaguya!

...

Now I know kaguya isn't exactly wealthy, but I know this is now the reason for his failure to have RRII, the problem is deeper than that, and I think his lack of RRII comes from some sort of pathological fear of failure.

I end this message with a request that these complaints be addressed, that kaguya take a more active, expansionist stance, and that new, young, and radical minds be introduced to the sites leadership.

Thank you for your time

>He rejected the doomsayers who viewed imageboards as a dying format that would never catch on with the young generation. He disregarded endless complaining about "n00bs like me" and sought to build from the ground up, a new generation of young imageboard users who would match and surpass the percieved golden era of imageboards back in the 2000s.

I wonder how it is even possible? I'm old enough to use Win 98 as my first OS. Over the years I've spend countless hours using Web 1.0, IRC, XMPP, etc. I remember the life without a smartphone or the mobile web. But even for me the concept and design of the sited looks dated.

Teenagers nowadays use Discord. Discord "servers" (as they call it) are basically modern-era imageboards. Some of them are really wild! Discord is trendy. It has everything a modern user expects: a native mobile app, a desktop app, a voice chat, "modern" design, etc.. The userbase is large, basically everyone's using it. And you don't have to wait for a reply, you can get an instant attention. It doesn't work well for long-term discussions - but most imageboards are about quick shitposting anyway. And attention span is ridiculously short nowadays.

I just can't understand how are you going to contend with such an established service? How a niche site with an outdated interface can gain any attention at all?

Mind you, I'm not a Discord user myself. I just get why it's so popular.

>I just can't understand how are you going to contend with such an established service?
At least initially, Heyuri didn't contend with dicksword but instead utilized it to our advantage

During teh lolico era, Heyuri had an active dicksword where staff and users would hang out and chat (I never joined it personally, but it was well known and linked here on the site) and it was also the primary place for staff communications. There was webhook set up so that there would be notifications on dicksword every time a new post was made to the website, which is how Heyuri managed to have near-immediate replies on par with sites 10x or 100x our size. Note that messages were also relayed between our IRC channel and teh dicksword, although that feature b0rked at some point

As you might expect, teh dicksword became a source of drama and internet slapfights so at some point in the post-lolico era it was relegated to being for notifications only. It recently got shut down bcuz it was registered under the same account as gurochan's - or something like that. Whether or not it should be brought back (for post notifications only) will likely be proposed at teh upcoming Townhall

>How a niche site with an outdated interface can gain any attention at all?
Many younger people are intrigued by what came before them; many older people have fond memories of what once was
>>

Discord is just a chatroom. Chatrooms have coexisted with message boards since the beginning of time.

discord has an expansive featureset that ends up making it much less like a traditional web chat service and much more capable of completely supplanting the site it gets attached to
