Maybe the kind of threads we have been getting recently fall more on srs discussion side rather than goofy weeb threads, but you can easily change that yourself by making sum threads you want to see on /b/ if that's what bothers you
If it's something else, tell what's the issue

Heyuri was never a "high quality" website, even during "teh golden age" - it was a "fun on teh interwebz" website with a friendly/lighthearted atmosphere and a relatively high level of activity and OC output for its size

And in that regard, I think Heyuri has been pretty great lately - especially compared to the various dark ages we've been through over the past 2 years sweat2

61760-san is right. When I first discovered Heyuri I came with all these lam0r pretentions about making Heyuri a 'quality' site.I gradually realized that the only thing Heyuri is really trying to do is recapture the turn of the millenium internet experience--which means free-wheeling fun, without any pretentions about making a 'great' site. Do you think they were trying to make a 'quality' site back on 4chan in 2003? No! They were too busy having fun on teh internetz!!!biggrin

/all/'s absence is the main reason why we had to cut our imageboards down to just /b/ and /q/ - otherwise we end up spreading ourselves too thin and the overall site activity level tanks dark
>>
>>61778
I can't think of any additions that wouldn't spread the site too thin with it's current userbase.dark
Alls I think we should focus on now is getting MOAR USERS!!!I'm rather optimistic in that case./b/ and /sw/ are nice and busy and I see a lot of "my first heyuri!!!" over on lounge.Only, I wonder where the word is spreading. Could those anons who were proposing we advertise on Eurodance music videos onto something??astonish

It's probably too late to change this now, but I would just like to say I hate that the wiki is using this touch screen-focused software with the floating toolbar following you down the page and hueg navigation boxes and images, I'm tired of seeing these designs and it doesn't suit Heyuri at all.
I don't know why anyone would choose this over the more classic Wikipedia-looking software, also made by MediaWiki, like what http://www.hrwiki.org/ uses

I'm making this thread for those of us who couldn't make it to the townhall but still want to discuss matters. Also becuz BBS > chat biggrin

According to teh logs (which you can find in full here: https://www.heyuri.net/_/townhall_6.txt ), the points of discussion were as follows:

1. Kokonotsuba bugs aren't high priority right now because Heyuri is being ported(?) to TinyIB
Townhall response: nobody commented on it but everyone clapped for Barry upon kuz's request

2. Thx 2 POTI-board's main developer for coming to Heyuri to help us and also listening to suggestions for the English translation

3. HeyuriRemix gets pretty much no traffic, what should be done with it?

I started typing up my thoughts as soon as I made this thread, but it quickly became very long and then I became very tired, and since then I've either been too busy or feeling too exhausted to focus on it sweat2

Instead of continuing with that essay, I'll summarize the main points of what I wanted to say, and not repeat anything already said by others in the townhall itself:

- My thoughts on rewriting/porting the software are best expressed by this article from the year 2000 on "things you should never do" in software development:
https://www.joelonsoftware.com/2000/04/06/things-you-should-never-do-part-i/ (TL;DR - DON'T THROW OUT OLD CODE AND START ANEW!!!)

There's no reason to believe that a new script will be any better than what have now (or what we had before, or what we had before that...), but there are plenty of reasons to believe that our current software will be neglected until the new one goes live (which could be months away), that the replacement will be buggy for a long time, that it will be missing key features for a long time (possibly indefinitely like /all/), and that it will take up lots of time and energy from both staff-san and the users for no good reason, burning everyone out and stifling activity. After "TEH CRASH", Strawberry Heaven, the kuz reboot, and the slow and painful switch to kokonotsuba, I DO NOT want to have go through all that rigmarole again - especially not to just get back to where we already are now sweat3

There's just something about old school anime prawn that feels really appealing. When it's not terribly drawn, I mean. I guess something about how there was really little in the way of an online digital art 'scene' back in those days, and the technique in those days was a lot less refined and more experimental.

>1. What are "retail flash files" mentioned in the rules?
Probably refers to non-freeware flash files - back in the day there were flash-based games that cost real moneez (liek Samorost 2)

>2. Also in the rules, regarding /q/: "Do not post non meta topics outside of here!". Did you mean "Do not post non meta topics inside of here!"?
I think it's supposed to read "Do not post meta topics outside of here!", but in practice the only time it's enforced is whenever a dramaqueen shows up

>3. Is this pic against rule 8?
Just use the original, or alternatively this edit:

>>
>3. Is this pic against rule 8?
<I think rule 8 is more about how you use it unless it's a shitty nu-meme (which this might count as), but I don't see anything wrong with using it so long as the spirit of Heyuri is maintained. If you want to be sure, maybe ask one of the mods on IRC or see if you get banned for using them. There isn't much reason to use it anyway unless it's relevant, just use >>60743

HEYURI IS AWESOME. THAT IS A FACT! But what if there were holiday events that happened on the site?
Example: For Easter, you could have Easter eggs be randomly scattered around the website. You can click on them to collect them!! Collect them all for a FREE PRIZE!!! (like ascii art of heyuri-tan in a bunny outfit)

Post your ideas here too if you want!!!! There might not be an active developer on Heyuri, but I like daydreaming!!!!!

I am sadly not the wizard you imagined, but I will not be refrained from shouting ideas!

- April Fools or Website Anniversary: A cardboard cutout of Heyuri-tan has taken over /b/! /b/ has been put on lockdown, and a new board is made as an underground base of operations to take back the board! Perhaps the real Heyuri-tan will show herself to save the day...
- Halloween: Light the carved pumpkin! Each webpage has a global pumpkin which is to be light with a certain amount of clicks. If this light isn't maintained, then the pumpkin loses its light and the website turns dark! The webpage which had the longest time with the light on wins.
- Christmas: Haiku your waifu! Write a seasonal haiku about your waifu. The waifu with the best haiku wins.

>we can just report any issues we come across to the maintainer and let them deal with it
What a shit mindset, this is the kind of thinking that is the reason why all technology is endlessly getting worse and worse. no one is willing to take accountability for anything, it is always just someone else's fault, not yours.

There is literally NOTHING wrong with the software heyuri uses.
>Heyuri's #1 problem has always been the lack of a dedicated developer who can fix bugs, patch security holes
Please give an example of the "bugs" or "security holes".
software can just be functional, everything doesn't need to be in a perpetually constant state of being "updated" with "new" "features" and yet heyuri with no main developer gets new features pretty often...
99% of "bugs" and "security holes" need like ONE dude to fix them ONCE
>>
>>61686
Read the thread properly instead of just jumping in at that post!

I'm not in support of dropping our current software, nor dropping the scripts we were using b4 kokonotsuba should it become completely nonviable - this was a thought experiment about the purely hypothetical scenario where none of the above options were viable (which isn't actually that hypothetical since we've had to move scripts a couple of times before) closed-eyes2

And the problem is that Heyuri doesn't even have "ONE dude to fix them ONCE", as stated by kuz and kaguya many times over the past year and a half. You should read the previous townhall logs, where any and all ideas, feature requests, bugfixes, etc. regarding kokonotsuba and Heyuri were shot down across the board due to "lol no developers". And while kuz and kaguya have been able to fix certain things in the past themselves (usually after a lot of pressure and persuasion...), they will not always be able to do so - either due to not having enough l33t sk1llz, or simply being too burned out or busy with other things

If you lurk a little moar you'll also lern how we've been affected in the past by vulnerabilities and hax0rs - hell, it was only a few weeks ago that the entirety of /b/ was nuked via a lone MLP spammer, and that's far from the worst we've ever encountered

Heyuri was once forcefully taken offline and considered DEAD for 3 months in 2020 after a nefarious actor with root access took over and deleted the entire site after having already spammed the shit out of it for over a month after having already destroyed the hard drives of our previous servers causing us to lose an entire month's worth of heavy development on our (then) new script, not to mention all their social engineering and intentionally causing rifts among Heyuri's former staff cry
