I am curious about teh 90s as i seen pretty much everything from 2000+

is burn up worth giving a watch or should i just skip it? its been sitting on my watch later for a while.
>>
Absolutely. The first OVA is only 1 episode and it's like 40 minutes, so no harm no foul there. I think the two spin-offs (Burn Up W, Burn Up X) are actually far superior (more characters, more fanservice, wackier hijinks and humor). But you should start with the first one to see if it floats your boat.

Not violent stories where everyone dies or gets maimed or something trite like that, but when things are emotionally strained or people who should be happy aren't. I hated that Arakure Ojousama wa Monmon Shiteiru was scratching that itch for me for the longest time, but then the guy had to be a fag and ruin it. I haven't read it since he started acting like he was in love with her. This frame was my favorite part
Are there any manga that are well written but don't gay out at the last second? I love it when characters go through some massive disappointment or hate each other, especially in romance plots.

Here's another famous example. This sequence is wonderful;

bump. shit hits at home. fucking deep shit. bump that shit. heavy manga provide now. no kidding.

Are any of you watching this? It's the successor to Fancy Lala in the Pierrot Magical Girl Series.
>>
I should be, but haven't. ( ´ω`)
>>
I am, it's great.
I like how it simultaneous feels more childish than other children’s anime I’ve watched but also less "clean".
I started watching Meitantei Precure and the first thing the MC does is help someone find something they lost, she then goes on to use her magic to help solve people's problems, it feels like it's meant to teach children how to be good. Meanwhile Fuu just goes "It would be boring if the game ended too fast" and accidentality starts a death game. Even her more selfless acts are something more personal, like wanting to be closer to her sister.
It portrays well how children act, rather than how they are meant to act.

What does /a/ think of witch hat?

Is it really as bad as everyone says it is?

Is anime becoming politically correct?

I mean, they are correct in worrying about UN or some other neoliberal NGOs and instututions taking interest in their hobbies. The last time it happened, vidya industry got hijacked by moralfags and activists. Would be a shame if it happened to anime

People really, really wanted it to be the next Big Thing™, but it's just not that type of series.

We will watch Mahoromatic: Automatic Maiden (2001) on the next Saturday (18th), starting 18:00 UTC

It's about a troubled boy who lives alone unexpectedly meeting a meido andoroido girl who turns out to be battle-level powerful and wanting to spend the remaining of her limited lifespan with her. There's seemingly a secret organization and perhaps a secret past to the android too. With this much clue I have a guess where the power-on buttan for the robot is :nyaoo:

Another GAINAX animu.. although this time it's an animu with two parts. Are we just watching the first season? I haven't seen this anime since I originally watched it when I was probably no older than 13, but I think the whole reason people still talk about it is because of the fucktarded ending
>>
We will only watch the first season, 12 episodes that aired in 2001

I meant to quickly remember some plot points but ended up rewatching the whole S1 before watching the movie for the first time. The movie was fun and seemingly important for the plot between two seasons, so I recommend watching it sometime

There is also a recap episode for the first half of S1 that you may find useful: https://myanimelist.net/anime/34904/Youjo_Senki__Senkyou_Houkoku

Movie's ED was sung by MYTH & ROID

I was going to ask this to staff-san directly but I figured out a thread is better for preservation of knowledge

I used the below ffmpeg cmd script (created by AI) for some anime and it worked fine, but for the one I'm trying right now it placed the subtitle at wrong location and made the text very small for some reason. Probably because they are in some weird DVD-based format.

@echo off
setlocal enabledelayedexpansion

for %%F in ("*.mkv") do (
set "name=%%~nF"
set "out=!name!.mp4"

echo.
echo ===== Processing "%%~nxF" =====

ffmpeg -y ^
-i "%%~fF" ^
-filter_complex "[0:v][0:s:0]overlay" ^
-map 0:v ^
-map 0:2 ^
-c:v libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p -preset slow -crf 22 ^
-c:a aac -b:a 128k ^
-movflags +faststart ^
"!out!"

if errorlevel 1 (

I do the transcodes 4 Heyuri Cytube. I use HandBrake, and the settings I generally use are:

Format
Format: MP4
Web optimized: enabled
Align A/V start: enabled
Passthru common metadata: enabled
Display size: automatic
Dimensions
Cropping: None
Resolution limit: 480p NTSC SD
Anamorphic: automatic
Optimal size: enabled
Filters
All off unless there's telecine/interlacing issues (typical on unaltered DVD rips) or too much noise (typical on BDs of cel era anime - noise is difficult to compress and bloats ur resulting file sizes, so it's best to smooth it out while trying to retain as much of the actual content detail as possible). Filters drastically slow down the whole process so I prefer to avoid them
Video
Video encoder: H.264
Framerate: Same as source, variable framerate
Color range: Same as source
Encoder options
Encoder preset: Slow (depends on how l33t ur CPU is and how long u can tolerate - the slower it is, the better job it does of compressing, but there is a point of diminishing returns)
Encoder tune: Animation (fast decode disabled)
Encoder profile: Main
Encoder level: 3.1
Quality

When I encode something with complex fancy font subtitles I use these ffmpeg settings
-i inputfile -map 0 (other settings) -c:s copy -map 0:t? output.mkv
so for a real example these are my settings to compress a HUGE 25+GB anime down to only 2.3gb

-map 0 -c:v libx265 -preset medium -crf 22 -tune animation -vf "scale=-2:720:force_original_aspect_ratio=decrease" -c:a aac -b:a 448k -ar 48000 -c:s copy -map 0:t?

audio bitrate should be lower but this anime had good music and was coming from a flac source so 448 is like 99.9% identical quality. dual audio would be more complicated, you could just copy the audio streams if it isn't flac which is HEUGE
preset slow will make the file slightly bigger but a lot better quality
also you gotta use mkv because it is one of the only containers that let you keep the complex subs
h264 is way better for compatibility though
>>
DVD subs are always a hassle (・∀・)

>>6308
the big issue is that you need baked subs for cytube, c:s is not going to help
