There's this rather obscure tool on github from a decade ago called "jpeg2png" that's designed to remove jpeg artifacts. I've been using it for a decade now and nothing else even comes close to it in terms of quality. Even those expensive neural network based ones are considerably less effective than this tool.

The only real flaw of it is that some images that actually do contain significant noise and are saved at low quality get smoothed out slightly. Understand though that importantly, that this is not smoothing in the sense of blurring, but reduction of the JPEG coefficients. In general, this tool does not result in any blurring. I believe the tool works by tweaking the DCT coefficients to result in the minimum noise and maximum coherence, which usually results in a result very close to the original.

The reason the smoothing happens for high noise images is presumably because it is because the solution it finds is just to tweak every DCT coefficient so it is slightly smaller to minimize the cost. I wonder if this issue could be simply fixed by detecting when most DCT coefficients decrease, and not changing them in that case. In cases where they are legitimately being decreased, the reduction in cost would be significantly higher and the changes in DCT coefficient should be pretty much evenly spread, as the errors were introduced by quantization/rounding, which is not biased.

I've also been working on some concrete improvements and additions to the site. I've not released it yet, but plan to very soon. I plan to add the ability to view the CRBA art chronologically and in other ways. Hello, I am the CRBA admin and I am back again.

If you don't know CRBA is a very obscure art series created by a Japanese/Taiwanese artist. I discovered it a little over two years ago now and it holds a deep place in my heart. Basically, I wanted to collected all of his art in one place in the best quality so I launched a website for it: https://crba.tw

It holds a deep place in my heart and has made me experience some very special feelings that I have felt nowhere else. In particular, it has this amazing ethereal aura, combined with this beautiful overpowering saccharine innocence that is just so beautiful and genuine.

Whenever I think about CRBA, I feel this feeling of an 'infinite past' - not nostalgia per se, but just this beautiful dreamlike innocence. Furthermore, it feels almost completely outside of reality, like it completely transcends the real world to the point where there is no resemblance at all.

On my website, there was an imageboard. A few weeks ago, there was a raid that filled it with spam and bumped off the posts. I thought I had configured to never bump off posts, but for some reason that didn't seem to work. Fortunately. I have a backup of the database, but haven't gotten around to doing that quite yet.

I was thinking that when I get around to doing that, I should also make some other improvements I've been meaning to make to this site. Then that got me thinking of this amazing idea, imagine creating a series of collaborative CRBA-themed community activities within the website that would allow you to feel the CRBA innocence as a participant? In order for the proper immersion to work, it would to be very delicately designed. Unfortunately, I am a terrible artist with no skill, so I could not do it. I am wondering if any of you like this idea, and have thoughts on the kinds of community activities that could be implemented, or even wish to help with the design.

b) A logarithmic amplitude spectrum comprising an array of N elements is created such that LogAmp[i] = log(Amp[i]) for i in [0, N), where N is the number of discrete values in the amplitude spectrum and Amp is the amplitude spectrum.
c) A cubic natural spline LogInt comprising N - 1 segments is created from the values of the logarithmic amplitude spectrum and positions represent the frequency values of the sinusoids estimated in the amplitude spectrum.
d) An array capable of holding up to 2N-2 objects representing the resonance parameters (frequency, amplitude, and bandwidth) is created and it's initial length is set to zero.
e) For each segment S of the spline LogInt having index i and parameters offset o; span h; and coefficients a, b, c, and d (representing the cubic, quadratic, linear, and constant values, respectively); the following is performed:
