>how do we even calculate pph?
1. Take two dates, and two post numbers from those dates (preferably around the same time of day),
2. Subtract the earlier date from the later date to get the difference in days,
3. Subtract the earliest post number from the latest post number to get the difference in posts,
4. Divide the difference in days by the difference in posts to get the average PPD between the provided dates,
5. Divide the PPD by 24 to get the PPH

So on 2020-08-06 the last post on /b/ was No.7328, and on 2020-08-08 the last post on /b/ was No.7572,
(2020/08/10 - 2020/08/08) = 2 days,
(7572 - 7328) = 244 posts,
(244 posts / 2 days) = an average of 122 posts per day,
(122 PPD / 24 hours) = 5.0833 posts per hour

With more data points, you can make something like pic related

Those big peaks coincide with the GETs - for the most part it's when some CHEATER tries to rig it by sagespamming dead threads, covertly bumping up the post number

The trough between July 10th and July 12th was teh server crash ;_;, and the one between July 30th and August 3rd was the multi-faceted phenomenom that prompted >>1656

I wonder if the massive peak on July 6th (the day of the 4K GET) had anything to do with the server crash on July 10th...

So, i totally respect your guys' wish to not have soyjacks, wojacks, or other rule 8 stuff here. but why dont you like it? what makes it different from the stuff made 10 years ago? Most of it is still oc, and takes a bit of work to make.

Whats the difference, and why do you choose one over the other?

Just curious, ill be on my way afterwards

Well first of all, ~10 years ago was a REALLY shitty time in imageboard and internet history, even compared to today

That's when 4chan had firmly cemented itself as the place for underageb& kids to hang out, the internet became overrun with ragecomics, horrendously shitty image macros, dumb ">MFW greentext" crap everywhere, post number roulettes and worthless digit checking, endless regurgitations of 2008 crap like rickroll, trollface, advice dog (and the near endless advice dog clones), LOLcats and other memes ruined by non-internet people who didn't get the joke (thanks icanhascheezburger, FAILblog, KYM, etc), mass commercialization of internet culture and "meme merchandise" - it was just fucking depressing to watch it all go to shit

I'm MUCH more of a fan of the early to mid 2000s internet culture, which has largely remained untainted, and still brings a smile to my face whenever I see it

>soyjacks, wojacks, or other rule 8 stuff
Mostly because that shit was only relevant to the "feels posting" fags who ruined /r9k/ (and subsequently the rest of 4chan) when it started, and then it DIED years ago already

And it didn't die through the natural passage of time or through being forgotten like a lot of the stuff posted here, but instead it had the same thing happen to it that happened to the 2008-2012 crap I mentioned before - it was catapult into the mainstream, coopted by various outsider groups (in this case political ones), and has since been distorted into something very foreign to the types of places it originated from in the first place

What remains of it today (which is effectively just "trollface iteration #2364") is a series of petty and angry propaganda attempts, that are about on the same level as the most ridiculous WW2 propaganda posters, and represent one of the biggest forms of aids spreading through imageboards of the last several years

SHIT

I would say the decline of the internet and internet culture started in 2008/2009 and that project chanology changed imageboard culture forever. However i feel the real pre-social media internet truly died around 2011/2012 when the social media era had truly begun and the golden age of the internet was already over around 2009/2010 because by that time smartphones were starting to become common place.

As communities grow, they often degrade, i think this is the norm with most communities on the internet, or IRL. Since the dawn of time its been like this, i personally dont think Heyuri has reached that point, at. all. But it is possible.

At what point will you consider heyuri to be too mainstream to be fun? Right now i kind of think as this place where oldfags can meet and have fun, untainted by the cold, corporate touch of the rest of the internet. Its magical really, im just afraid ill lose it.

2k!!

They don't "degrade" necessarily - more often than not they just change with the inevitable flow of new users coming in and old users going out

Most of the time, older users don't like the changes that new users bring about - even if those same "older users" were once new users themselves that those who came before them didn't like that much

If there's one constant on the internet, or in any form of human social structure, it's that there will always be new trends, new words, new ideals, and new people - and there will always be a group of older people complaining about them, longing for the days when their preferences were more commonplace

Neither is objectively right or wrong, they just develop incompatible preferences - and that's fine, as long as they're not going to places where the majority of people disagree with them, and they start fights and flamewars over which is right or wrong (which they are because LOL humans)

this isnt fucking lainchan. both of you fuck off.
>>

I've never in my life visited lainchan
I just tought both boards would be interesting since
1.people here know a lot about tech
2.I've had some interesting discussion about /hum/ related stuff in here. And since /b/ will never be a serious board, I tought it would be a good idea to have it as a separate board

if you disagree with my post, please tell me why in a constructive way preferably
>>
>>2037
Something tech-related will probably be added as a text board.

why the hell reply to the OP of a post? i mean if the op is >>1234
and their response is
">>1234
haha yeah"

Do not link to the op post if you are replying to the op post!! its stupid, reply links are for inter thread communication. no reply link means you are replying to op!

jeez...

NO U

Quotelinking to the OP is something I've only really seen happening since some time after the start of the "(You)" era (~2013) - if you dig through some old archives or screencaps, you'll rarely ever see anyone doing it, because everyone knew you were replying to OP by default. As >>2027 alluded to, on imageboards like Futaba the userbase generally don't quotelink to post numbers at all, they just quote the text (and their quotes work a bit like how quotelinks do here, in that you can hover over them to preview the post they are quoting)

Speaking of old archives though, I found this the other day - an archive of /a/ circa 2006 - 2008 (also with some /g/ circa 2006 - 2007, and /v/ circa summer 2006): https://4museum.neocities.org/

It's amazing because I was pretty sure all pre-2008 archives were thought to be lost forevar when 4chanarchive/chanarchive died

Why does the /f/ board have thumbnails and a regular thread index? Embedding doesnt really work and the thumbnails are pointless since they are all the same. Cant /f/ have a custom thread index similar to 4chans? Our current one is just ugly
>>
>Cant /f/ have a custom thread index similar to 4chans?
It did have something like that originally, but it wasn't perfect
>>
Embedding works the same way 4chan does. How is it broken?

And don't expect Heyuri to do everything like 4chan, other scripts like Wakarimasen and Pixmicat do it the same way.

Javascript should enhance but not outright replace features. Basic functionality, like posting or viewing images, should be possible without having it enabled.

JS is bad. It was a mistake.
In an alternate universe JS was never made. Web 2.0 is a lot more stylish and bas*d on Flash!

This. JQuery is gaaaaaaaaaaaay.

This too. I only use JS on top of already working systems. There will never be a part of Heyuri that relies on JS.
