I always see people say stuff like "you'd need to be a user of r8 sites to know that this is rule 8, so why are you complaining about it", but wouldn't that be true for everything that's rule 8?
Like if someone only ever used heyuri their entire lives they wouldn't know what "based" means (outside of the dictionary meaning), but that wouldn't mean "based" would now not be bannable.

Teh thing about Rule 8 is that it's primarily targeting a certain brand of stale, joy-killing, 4chan-derived culture that has dominated the majority of imageboards for a very long time - a culture which often involves adopting "outsider" cultures to troll other users ("ironic shitposting")

What Rule 8 is not targeting, however, is anything and everything that is perceived to be (but often isn't) a new/recent trend outside of Heyuri - especially when it's something that is totally innocuous and you'd have to really go out of ur way to be teh ang0rz about it

That's the main intent of Rule 8, but to reply 67497-san's point, there are indeed some buzzwords that R8 bans (see: R8.c), and the line (of its "annoying-ness", given it's indeed something from post-2006~) is drawn at staff's discretion, and even then context of the post/intention of the poster may matters. I generally leave it to native English-speaking mods

But in practice we never see these kind of words on Heyuri, and there's no point in arguing over the way to enforce rules about hypothetical posts we won't ever get

I think what you tiktok haters need to realize is the mods arent your heroes. Eventually, they will kick off the downfall of this site. You cant rely on moderators to fight your battles for you; if you want to see tiktok fags leave, ignore their posts. If you find it absolutely necessary to engage with them, always be as passive aggressive to them as possible, and do as much as you can to make their experience on this site miserable. No. Heyuri is the way it is precisely because it has always rejected that kind of behavior, and those who try to initiate it. That method only ever succeeds in transforming healthy communities into hostile battlefields of bitterness - where every user views all the other users as unwelcome intruders - like all the other places that thought "let's be unbearable assholes and drive away the users we don't like!" would make for a good community

The best alternative to ignoring things is to turn them into something fun and/or creative instead - the more users that choose this path, the better things will be
