How did heyuri get so big? Where all was heyuri advertised so that everyone came to it?(came to it lol)
>>
i remember that there was a spike in users during the 4chan hack because someone mentioned it in the downdetector comment section, but i dont feel like it was that big if i'm being honest
>>
We've advertised in a variety of places over the years, but the main things are that:

- we've often been in the right place at the right time (and taken advantage of it)
- thanks to various past experiences, we successfully avoided a lot of the usual "new imageboard" blunders that most die from (though we did die once...)
- we've collectively put a fuck-ton of work and effort into making Heyuri "the place to be"

Pretty sure it has been advertised on 9chan and SpaceHey and some other places before. Though I found this place from some random anon on zzzchan mentioning it as an aside

It's a little depressing that Heyuri receives few posts an hour and that's already enough to make it among the fastest English language BBSes. It makes further growth (ie. outside imageboards) a bit challenging...

For the answer to your question, I think Heyuri simply stands out with its laid-back atmosphere among other bulletin boards, so it's more likely to become the users' home if they are seeking one. Our worry is having fun on the interwebz with fellow friendly Heyurians instead of standing out among other sites or competing within ourselves :nyaoo-closedeyes:

>It feels like 3 years ago this place was insignificant and now its too fast to read.
(quoting OP's deleted thread)
Heyuri was highly active during teh summer of 2020 due to 1) the import of kuz's former-9chan users, and 2) general word of mouth. Unfortunately, Heyuri then died due to crapflooding and hax in early September 2020, and was revived (after a 2-month vacation on Strawberry Heaven) with hardly any activity at all in December 2020

During the second half of 2022 - after a year and a half of things being very quiet - activity began to slowly rise again thanks to an admin change and various efforts (including promotion efforts, such as advertising on VidLii). Around New Years 2023, we had a sudden HUEG influx of new users thanks to a random user (possibly even a troll) who began promoting Heyuri on every imageboard evar. Our site activity basically quintupled overnight

While Heyuri is not quite as active now as it was during that crazy period, we've been able to maintain a lot of the momentum from that time, with occasional slow days and fast days. There was a sudden doubling of activity around the time of the April 4chan hack/downtime, but it was shortlived - activity was effectively back to normal once 4chan came back online

Pic related shows Off-Topic's posts-per-month from June 2020 to October 2025. https://up.heyuri.net/src/4580.png on the other hand shows Heyuri's site-wide posts-per-day from January 2024 to July 2025 (note that I haven't updated it in a while - it's a lot of effort since I grab all the numbers manually :sweat2:)

Pr00f? I never saw any of these on any other imageboards

I came here after seeing it on Vidlii a few years ago :sweat2:

i came here near the start of 2023 through word of mouth :hokke:

it's hard to prove it due to the ephemeral nature of imageboards
it was essentially one man campaign and if getting users was as easy as just spamming the link around, that weird chinese brony BBS would be the most active imageboard around
but here are some examples

I found heyuri in 2023 when someone mentioned it in one of crazy-kun's threads on another imageboard (the thread was deleted a few hours later because it was a crazy-kun thread), so thank you crazy-kun and may you someday achieve the 6 digits you've always dreamed of

Not sure if he mistyped 2022 or if he is talking about a second influx (I vaguely remember one happening around 2023 but it's fuzzy), but there is an archived thread from around that time when we were advertised by a well-meaning user (and also possibly by an unaffiliated troll). https://archive.ph/DDYJG

Now that I think about it, there was definitely an influx during new years 2023. But I don't think I have an archived thread bookmarked from that time. ;_;
I do however have one from a month before when 4chan went down. ヽ(´∇`)ノ https://archive.ph/Cq2Nf

I joined the site about three years ago because someone mentioned it in a nostalgia thread on 4chan's /v/. great place
