Textless, thoughtless threads

These threads suck(at least the concept of them, the bewbs are cool). A good bit of the threads on /b/ have no thought at all behind the post and are by an entity(ies) treating the board like an imagedump. One or two textless threads is alright, but at this rate we are putting ourselves below s4s. Heyuri needs to be the bastion of clever and insightful posts.
(I don't know how anything could be enforced about this besides deleting. Flood /b/ with math equations lol)

I've been noticing an uptick in these sorts of threads recently but i dont see a problem with them
┐(゚~゚)┌
sometimes they even lead to OC being made or can spur into a fun discussion. Heyuri is not about "effortposting"

Japanese BBSs have sucked for the past 8 years. You go to futaba and all you see is imagedumps and troll threads. Also heyuri is it's own thing and shouldn't look up to other BBSs just because their japanese.

On teh imageboards, a comment is optional and always was. Complaining about it just indicates ur n00bness - not to imageboards or Japanese imageboards (although possibly those too), but to Heyuri specifically
Imageboards are for images, and text is secondary. Lounge or Strange World are probably better fits if you're looking for discussion ("clever and insightful posts" not guaranteed!)
>Also heyuri is it's own thing and shouldn't look up to other BBSs just because their japanese.
Part of Heyuri's "own thing" is taking more inspiration than most from the Japanese web of past and present, removing the layer of crust that most Western imageboards are caked in

The problem described is talking about the quality of threads and abundance of low qaulity threads, not just about them having no text.
>Part of Heyuri's "own thing" is taking more inspiration than most from the Japanese web of past and present, removing the layer of crust that most Western imageboards are caked in
Better the well being of heyuri than the well being of elements only here for ceremonial reasons because of their nation of origin, wouldn't you say?

OP-san was clearly talking about "textless, thoughtless threads" in both description and screencap - but regardless, neither u nor the amount of text are what determines whether a thread is "low quality" or not
To have users worrying or complaining about such a thing is to lower the quality of the site as a whole
>Better the well being of heyuri than the well being of elements only here for ceremonial reasons because of their nation of origin, wouldn't you say?
I would say Heyuri's well-being is greater without n00bs setting up an arbitrary quality threshold that must be met b4 a thread is deemed acceptable by teh resident party p00pers, as well as without the diminishing of Heyuri's eternal guiding star known as teh Japanese web!

Even with teh tradition aside, threads aren't mean to be "quality" (not to say they aren't welcome), but being "fun" (or some other adjectives like "interesting" etc) is much more impr0tant. Go read some research paper if you seek quality!
I think textless threads at the very least have potential to invite fun replies.

my two cents: if you want more discussion threads, start more of them in /lounge/ (the board
really
does need the activity, too)
very literally no chance of senseless image replies since there aren't images
and honestly it's a lot less effort to do AA stuff on /sw/ so you're less likely to see that on /lounge/
I do feel like the current crop of threads I see across /all/ (I have ero boards turned off since I navigate to them specifically when I'm feeling in an ero mood) isn't amazing personally, but I've also just taken refuge in /sw/ lol
( ´ω`)
when I see nothing that I want to reply to, making the threads I'd want to see requires more mental effort than I have decided to put in, while it is more than okay for an /sw/ post to get 0 replies.
( ´ω`)
also, we aren't really a bastion of clever and insightful posts here and haven't been
like stated in several above posts, this is a place to have fun and lolz

You are choosing to get personal. I will have you know that I do determine which threads have quality or not because I am the smartest and best user ever. If you think you're so tough, beat me toe to toe in rock paper scissors, chump.

I mean, mods did delete many posts reported in the way you make fun of, so I'm not sure what your point is. Mods themselves encouraged posting about things that may b0rk rules on /q/ instead of derailing the threads. There even used to be a report thread. So I'm afraid YOU are the one who's whining about some made some made up scenarios and strawmen, Mr. Whiner

Also you putting the "15+ years on the internet"'s anons posts together with report posts doesn't make sense, since that guy and anons who report posts for rule b0rking are arguing something completely different, we are actually on the opossite sites of the argument.
I was the one who made the thread about that feminist thread, that got almost immediately deleted after the report. The "15+ years" guy was whining about it and complaining about "random pictures with no text", and I myself even mocked that anon in one of the posts.
So you can't even make a coherent meme mocking me, because you don't even know who exactly are you mocking

Alright, but seriously now. I don't want you to think I hate Heyuri or the mods. I actually think you guys are doing great job keeping Heyuri clean and fun
It's just that sometimes I find it weird how some posts b0rking or bordering on rule 8 are not deleted, even though I think they should, so I just sorta let you know on /q/. In the end it's up to you if you delete them or not

I don't like them much too. Too often they are too few responses and just sage the best threads.
I would postulate for a new board where low and medium quality posts are prohibited because I would want to make original threads with significantly more effort than just dropping one picture and no text as I used to. But the thought of speed at which heyuri goes these days is horrifying when you put a lot of effort to get 1 reply and drop from page 0 in half the day forever.
I would post cooking, crafts, tutorials, heyuri exclusive sanpo pictures, local things i dig up from the past and relics, local library reviews, cool link and magnet collections and they would be a good place for OC in general I think.
Maybe the rules could be:
1. For the thing to be made by you entirely including own OC, own ideas, own photos and so on with references and reposts allowed unless they oversaturate the thread
2. OC to be more than low quality (low effort)
3. Replies to bring substance as well, whether supportive or dissatisfied to prevent oversaturation of the thread with one line replies that are not even genuine
Not everyone would like the threads or plain be angry because the board would possibly look like an elitist curated garden of select few attention seekers but that environment encourages quality
Quality takes time and in a slow and clean board you feel like you have an eternity to finish something and share it
Originality makes the threads more risky because the idea has not been tried before, but if nobody innovates then there can be no cool things discovered, fear of shaming (and reckless shaming) and laziness are the vices

>I would post cooking, crafts, tutorials, heyuri exclusive sanpo pictures, local things i dig up from the past and relics, local library reviews, cool link and magnet collections and they would be a good place for OC in general I think.
My advice would be:
A. pick a more appropriate board than Off-Topic for longer-lasting and longer-format threads - u can upload images to up.heyuri.net and link them on Lounge, for example. I don't think it'd be difficult for us to implement a proper hotlinking feature like we've done elsewhere, so u would see up.heyuri.net images without clicking them
B. just maek those threads on Off-Topic anyway and see what happens - we've been through faster periods that still had discussion-oriented threads, not to mention all the other imageboards besides Heyuri that have been capable of the same thing with an order of magnitude more activity. Rule 1 also exists for a reason, and will be more heavily applied if an OP invokes it
C. go to a different website with a slower speed / different idea of what makes a "good" board

That's all fine and good, but realistically, from my time on Heyuri and different imageboards, I can already tell you no one's gonna posts or even visit such board
Most activity on Heyuri takes place on /b/, and both high and "low" quality threads can only really get engagement because it's the first thing most people, especially new people, see when they come here.

I think Heyuri had struck gold with the set up where every corner of the site was completely different. Porn can be found everywhere on the internet so there's really no special value to having an in-house section for it, while /a/ is very close to being redundant despite being active considering that a lot of threads on /b/ already have an otaku flavour to them
As it pertains to the textless threads, of course there's nothing wrong with them per se but there have definitely been an uptick. I'd even go as far as saying that it almost feels like a subtle spam effort. Probably just me being paranoid, regardless, at best it shows that a bunch of retards arrived on the site

Indeed - the ones who arrived in the late 2022-early 2023 wave and have had a nasty habit of taking everything too seriously and critiquing everything instead of going with Heyuri's flow and taking opportunities to have fun
In 2020, instead of complaining about it and getting all grouchy, we called an uptick of new threads a

R u?
There was good stuff as usual, and Off-Topic's activity was at an all-time high, but that time was also filled with tons of rule-breaking crap and flooding attacks (which meant we needed to take on liek 5 janitors to keep up with it all - perhaps we did a good enough job that u didn't notice), n00bs refusing to lurk and adapt, kuz-related drama, butt-tons of crappy blog/survey threads, etc. - and several of the users who arrived at that time have been a neverending pain in the neck ever since, constantly trying to turn Heyuri into something it isn't (and shouldn't be)
