>Do I delete posts that aren't /q/-related at all
Usually I'd say leave it up and let us decide because there is no good definition for what's "/q/-related", but it seems like some spambot is targeting this board, so it's safe to delete

Should this be deleted? I'm not sure what the rules for advertising posts are.

>Should this be deleted? I'm not sure what the rules for advertising posts are.
Yes because it's a dicksword and they're just begging for users rather than showing any interest or appreciation 4 Heyuri

It's only been allowed in the past if it's a nice user/owner of an obviously culture-aligned website that wants to help us out and/or have reciprocal links to us - see Wapchan, Macrochan, etc.

"It's over" with a sad anime girl is nu4chan meme. Iirc this exact image was reported and deleted before, couple of months ago.

Happy 401 posts! The report thread has been helpful and prosperous in our journey to make our Heyuri even more great ヽ(´∇`)ノ

does anyone know what happened to this thread? I wanted to see whether he would do it (´~`)
>>
>>64514
Wasn't me who dealt with it and I didn't see anything after what you screencapped, but the action log shows that the OP made 3 posts in quick succession after yours, then a janitor deleted the original thread, and then deleted another of their posts & muted them

Considering how the OP of that thread reacted the last time they received a little constructive criticism, it wouldn't surprise me if they suddenly launched into a crazy tirade sweat2
>>
>>64515
that's a shame, cuz I was hoping he would shape up and deliver dark

He didn't. (゚血゚#)
After I deleted the last thread, he just wound up making another thread with the exact same question.

Not against the rules

It's definitely not something done on Japanese sites and while it was much more prevalant on nu-4chan than old.

It's also just low quality to reply with sage just to express disapproval, it adds nothing if you dislike a thread just ignore it and reply to a better thread or complain here.
>>
>It's definitely not something done on Japanese sites
It totally is, if you've ever spent 5 minutes on 2ch/5ch glare
>>

On what boards? There's 規制 but that's an anti-vandalism thing and it's not for low quality threads but spammers/bad actors.

you sure you're not mistaken? by checking the discord notifications, that thread only has only ever been posted in 14 times. and counting the number of posts in that thread confirms it

>>64645
I could be wrong, but I swear to God there were a lot more replies. I clearly remember some of them and there was a discussion about Lisp vs Perl or some other language, as well as some other stuff about Linux, PowerShell and whatnot. No way I dreamt all that.

"boifeets" is a nu4chan slang that seems to be connected with another nu4chan slang word "boysmell", which was already banned here once (there's a discussion about it in this very thread – post No.64296 by Mod-sama).

Not the word itself so that doesn't count and there's no rules against the uoah emoji... althought these standard emojis (emoticons?) are a new thing on Heyuri so the rules could be changed. What do the mods think about it?

Ban emojis.

I dunno about kaguya, but my personal opinion is that using them in a "I am emulating nu-4chan/Twitter behavior on purpose because I know it annoys Heyuri users" way = B&, but I don't have an problem with emoji inherently - I've used them myself (in conjunction with kaomoji and AA) on Heyuri in teh past!

I'll add that staunch "anti-emoji-ism" is equally annoying and Rule 8-like - nobody gave a crap about the rampant emoticon/emote/smiley usage on forums and IM back in the day!

In fact, one idea I've had for a long time is either making our own emoji font (proved too difficult for me...) or wordfiltering them to classic Japanese phone emoji icons, such as: https://emojipedia.org/softbank/2004/
>>
I've no issue at all with emojis on other platforms.

However, I am also rather against it here on Heyuri. For the simple reason that emojis doesn't belong on imageboard culture and never has(?). There is a vast difference between a forum and a imageboard. I believe that the use of images compared to a forum is what makes imageboard fun and creative. Unlike forums which are more text-based and thus more "stale" and are therefore in need of emojis for expression.

Ironically to my statement - as we have Yotsuba/Heyuri-tan emotes which everyone seems to love and use. To add more onto that will ... feel off and weird?

But again - i wouldn't care much if it was used once in awhile.

>I believe that the use of images compared to a forum is what makes imageboard fun and creative. Unlike forums which are more text-based and thus more "stale" and are therefore in need of emojis for expression.
Emotes/emoji/etc aren't typically used for the purpose of fun or creativity (despite us doing so fairly regularly), but rather conveying expression. Also, the vast majority of imageboards are anything but "fun and creative", and most forums totally had images sweat2

Hell, I saw more OC in various photoshop and mspaint threads on random gaming forums back in the day than some imageboards have ever had xd

>doesn't belong on imageboard culture and never has(?).
Emoji was rarely seen on the web prior to 2015 since they weren't added to Unicode until around that time - however, 8chan and a few other places went out of their way to add early support for them once it was viable

4chan briefly had wordfilter-based emotes like we have back in the mid-2000s (some of which were so commonly used they became memes), and text-based emoticon/kaomoji usage was also very common there until around 2008 when teh n00bs decided they were too cool and grown-up for them (it was also around that time that "reaction images" really began taking off)

For what it's worth, it's not unusual to see the occasional emoji on Futaba, and they're fairly common on 5ch and other 2ch-type boards. And it should go without saying, the Yotsuba emotes we're using right now were taken from a previous imageboard...

>To add more onto that will ... feel off and weird?
We've expanded our emotes a few times, and both kaomoji & several additional forms of text formatting have been added several years into our existence

It's very easy to adopt the mindset of "X is abused on other websites, so we shouldn't have it on Heyuri" - while that does apply to a small number of things (o hai Rule 8), adopting too much of that mindset would have prevented us from having or doing pretty much anything we currently have or do (including having an imageboard!)

Teh Heyuri way is to ignore what others do with X, to look at X with fresh eyes, and to come up with new/funny/interesting ways to use X. Our motto (nevar said before): If it's Heyuri, X won't suck!

Disclaimer: X may still suck
>>
ALL THAT BEING SAID (AND THERE WAS A LOT SAID), I think in addition to the idea I gave in >>64688 , we could also wordfilter common face emoji into our emotes

regular emojis are inexcusable, please clean them off my board

(K LOL)
>>
>and they're fairly common on 5ch and other 2ch-type boards.
they are but i only really ever see them used in reference to porn/porn threads

maybe thats just because of the boards i browse sweat3
>>
I'm in favor of removing emoticons, yotsubas are all we need xd
>>
The reason I went along with the database update was because it could solve the bug where post wouldn't go through if it had certain obscure unicode characters. The one who did teh update probably just wanted to create his R8 thread (>>64683) though...

I don't think emoji would ever actually get used on Heyuri enough that we would need to fiercely discuss about it. I suggest wait and seeing how/if they will get used on Heyuri first.

>or wordfiltering them to classic Japanese phone emoji icons, such as: https://emojipedia.org/softbank/2004/
This could be interesting to experiment with too

Baneposting was deemed to not break Rule 8 in the past on Heyuri

It's LOLworthy, could have been a thing at any point in interwebs history (it's along the lines of "THIS IS SPARTA"), is totally inoffensive (in a Heyuri sense), doesn't intentionally disrupt the board or aggravate users, isn't a retarded misuse of a function, and it never made its way into mainstream "meme culture" the way that most of the things that actually fall under Rule 8 did

Rule 8 doesn't mean "anything and everything from 4chan after 200X" - it's mainly just the "we're ruining the internet and your fun on purpose because fuck you" stuff, as well as typical low-quality, heavily-regurgitated, template garbage that spreads around Twitter/Reddit/iFunny/etc. (and the "ironic" posting of such material) sweat2

I am locking this thread.

Over the last 6 months, this thread has hosted many discussions about how rules should be interpreted and other meta stuff, but that's not how threads are meant to be used on Heyuri. We encourage creating new threads over minor stuff - all discussions about different matters in this thread could (and should) have been in separate threads. Rule 6 basically exists for this reason too.

Another important thing is kokonotsuba isn't meant to have big threads like this one. Looks like this thread has hit the "limit" and starting to cause certain technical issues when someone posts in it.

In short, please create new threads for all kinds of stuff you want to report from now on smile
