So are we banning abbreviations now? Will "Re:" warrant a warning too? Get the moderation to stop jumping the gun on this shit. The harder you try the worse it looks.
>>
Not that mod, but the "t." crap has always been Rule 8. Keep kuso imageboard culture on kuso imageboards plzkthx
>>

"t." is a Finnish abbreviation for "regards". Any Google search will tell you that. If you PERSONALLY have a problem with it, what other abbreviations from other languages do you take PERSONAL issue with?
>>
>"t." is a Finnish abbreviation for "regards". Any Google search will tell you that.
And it was adopted by English-speaking imageboard users in the 2010s and used to "shitpost" incessantly, which I'm sure you're aware of :closed-eyes:

not my warning either, but the ">" in the ban message is simply quoting your post
imo it's not as bad as it can get around stuff you see on other imageboards (I believe it's an actual usage in Finnish outside imageboards.
but I can't draw the lines for it like "you can say this" or "you can't use this word" either, and any such attempt would only enable backseat moderators
A blanket ban on nu-"chan" stuff are is simply easier for users to understand, and for us to enforce.

It's fine if you are a 4chan regular and your default writing style is R8 b0rking, but you should accept Heyuri as it is and make the effort to adjust your behavior to be unlike other English imageboards

i dont really see it as a harmful "shitpost" if its providing relevant information, and referring to yourself.

such as
"you should not stab your motherboard with a screw-driver. t. IT professional"
>>
>i dont really see it as a harmful "shitpost" if its providing relevant information, and referring to yourself.
You can make the same argument towards many of the things that fall under Rule 8, e.g. "wojak and pepe are just reaction images, they should be fine if they're reflecting your own emotions"

Ultimately what you'll end up with is a culture that looks and feels exactly the same as all the other modern-day imageboards, which goes against the entire purpose of Heyuri

I personally dont see an issue with t. but you are a mod, so whatever lol. I think a lot of people will be caught by this rule because its so common in internet vernacular these days. If you are willing to bother policing t. then thats ur choice. but i think most ppl have good intentions using it. ┐(゚ ~゚ )┌
>>
>I think a lot of people will be caught by this rule because its so common in internet vernacular these days
"Common internet vernacular these days" is a large part of what Rule 8 is about, and "t." is less common than some of the other words and phrases that fall under the rule

It's also something you'll practically only ever see on 4chan/8chan/etc. on the English-speaking web (minus teh fags who adopt imageboard lingo on Twitter or wherever)
>>
>>70267
if it's so important to you then state it in your rules. Or have a word filter. Or better yet, prevent posts that contain it from being posted in the first place.
>>
>>70270
actually this isnt a bad idea. if you wordfilter "t." to "sincerely" or "regards" it wont sound like 4kanker slang and it would be less work for mods.
You might avoid having this same thread/discussion 400 times.
>>
>>70258
Watch out. If you post in this thread with a proxy you'll get R9'd
>>
>if it's so important to you then state it in your rules. Or have a word filter. Or better yet, prevent posts that contain it from being posted in the first place.
The rule gives several examples of what kind of things are not in line with site culture - enough for someone to reasonably extrapolate what other things are and aren't wanted

It can't feasibly be an exhaustive list, nor would it be a good idea to make it so. Such a list would be:
- impossible to build/maintain
- TL;DR for most users
- a convenient dictionary for anyone wanting to troll the site
- just plain fucking lame

The same applies to wordfilters, which have the additional flaws of either being trivial to bypass or being triggered by too many false positives

What we do instead (and what generally works for those who aren't confrontational buttheads looking for an e-argument, and likely wouldn't be welcome here anyway) is inform users who've broken the rule via a post or a warning, and hand out bans if they're clearly doing it on purpose. It generally works, and only a select few individuals have ever flipped out over it instead of the usual "oh ok, my bad"

Personally I still think favorably of puchippy (ie. getting a robo warning before you even make a post), but it was decided against her during the last townhall, nyu.

I don't have doubt it would be effective the same way JS warning on strange world helped cutting non-line breaking pretty much completely, but then Heyuri is not about simply communicating while using the right words and phrases. A fun-having atmosphere is way important to preserve, and I see your posts (ITT and elsewhere) are often going against that
>>

bring back puchippy pls.
>>
I for one think it's great that mods ban nu4chan lingo like >t. and I think they should keep at it. Thank you for your service!
>>
I still use t. off the site, but I also know it's most famous on English speaking sites due to being popularized on 4chan.

Even if I think a lot of R8 things the mods to after are totally harmless, I feel like the real benefit of R8 is that it identifies users who are not willing to change how they type, and are thus not particularly willing to assimilate. Good users are better than more users every time (what do you even think the Eternal September was about, what do you think 4chan complaining about "summerfags" was about, etc; just a massive influx of people who weren't going to assimilate into the site culture).

Hello OP. My name is irrelevant, but I'll be your council and public defender. I will take over your case for you if you wish. I am a public defender with over 4 months of experience fighting unjust bans and warns.

I have successfully had 3 bans overturned and 2 threads undeleted over my career, as well as instituting a landmark policy change that helped prevent bans like these from being even more common.

If you'd like my services just let me know.

Objection! Offensive language!

Your honor, the prosecutor is using foul language and demeaning the defendant. Reprimand him!
