UPDATE: I have (mostly) finished the skirt! You would not believe how much of a pain in the butt it was to hem a semicircle. It's too small to fit in the sewing machine as well =(.

My thoughts:

-Even though the skirt seems to "poof" too much on its own, once paired with the blouse it looks better. Possibly useful to iron it to reduce creasing?
-I still have no idea how to get the skirt to stay up without elastics or belts. Originally I wanted to use buttons and eyeholes, but I actually have no clue how it would even work.
-Skipped the part where I hemmed the blouse (it was too annoying and I'll do it later)
-Next step is to make a waistband and some comically oversized bows =DD.

Originally I started this project because I wanted a cool figure toy of a character (because nobody was selling one at the time), but last week I found out that the production company plans to release a figure by February next year. It's not the exact model as the one I have planned, and it's a static figure like a sega prize instead of a poseable
one like a figma.

I've already preordered one and some other merchandise coming next year! Hopefully I'll finish the full size dress by then =).

Does anyone have recommendations on how to solve the skirt issue?

Also was here for the first auto-sage thread on /j/! Truly a historic moment =D!

are you following a pattern for the skirt? it probably is flairing too much because of the semi circle. check the way a real a line skirt is sewn, the curve is rather shallow. i usually use buttons when fastening skirts but you could also use hooks or a zipper. it looks pretty good though

I used a semicircle because I wanted it to flare out, but I didn't think it would be that much! I'm drafting my own patterns for this, and narrowed down my choices to a full circle skirt or a 3/4 circle skirt (1/2 or 1/4 doesn't give enough poofiness). There's also the fact that the fabric I used is stiffer than I thought.

Hooks and zippers are out since the skirt itself is too small (the semicircle pattern has a diameter of 11 cm and a waist diameter of 5 cm). I'm not exactly sure how buttons would work: for context, the skirt is made up of two semicircles sewn together, with a hole where the waist is. There are only two seams, one on each side. I am guessing you're referring to the way jeans or shorts are buttoned up? Really not sure how to fit it in.

Oh well, that's a problem for future me!

Thank you!
