One thing that's really struck me in recent years is how much people struggle with unvarnished atheism. Like they'll abandon Christianity, become Atheist, and have strong critiques of the absurdity of religion which presumably apply across the board. And then some time later they'll backslide into paganism, Wicca, or some sort of vaguely mystical belief. I have two friends (though tbf one of them never really went so far as calling themselves atheist), and one of them is Wicca with all of the magic spells and tarot bull, while the other one is obsessed with aliens with what is clearly a quasi-religious intensity, following every sighting and joining groups on discord and rando forums (which I privately refer to as 'Bible Study or 'Madrasa').

mankind struggles with the madness of reality
but also struggles with the specifics of a given religion and can probably poke holes in them or find a reason to disagree with what are fundamental aspects of a given specific religion

and thus, Man ends up descending into arbitrary forms of spiritualism

I personally feel religion is a type of feeling as innate as sensuality; one of those pre-logical things that simply grips people and leaves them with certain spiritual urges. This is the reason for things like sudden 'revelations' which lead people to convert or phenomena like 'religious ecstasy' where people are overwhelmed by spiritual feeling, or moments near death when people feel compelled to seek comfort in religion. I think that pure atheists are basically like those people who find it easy to abstain from sex. It's possible certainly, and makes certain people happy, but it's not for everyone, and many people will find some expression of religion eventually, with attempts to suppress it leading merely to strange pathologies.

The surface level reasoning for the existence of dualistic religion is its just a device rich people have used for generations to make regular civilians fear death and rules so you make them moar money
also richies are weirdos who pray to severed goat heads and hoard all the lolis to themselves because they think being selfish pricks makes them immortal and gives them super powers :xp:

christianity is forced on you by the fascist hegemony, atheism is the easiest off ramp from that. from there people are free to make their own choices about what to believe.

>people still making excuses to believe in fairy tales in 2026
Jesus healing a guy with magic or Muhammad flying to heaven on a unicorn is just as likely as garden gnomes in your backyard, but they hide from you whenever you look

But most religious people actually don't even care about the magic bits these days, they just want an excuse to virtue signal. They will live only by the bits that suit them, then scold you for not adhering to whatever they decided their religion is supposed to be

Don't let others tell you how you ought to live your life, a modern man should learn to find his own "meaning"

Heh... you all are pathetic...

I was thinking about those tablets the japanese made to uncover secret christians - they'd place a metal engraving of Jesus on the floor and ask you to step on it.

I'm an atheist now, for all intents and purposes, but I wouldn't step on it unless I had good reason to (like avoiding execution). The rational, logical part of my brain does not believe in anything spiritual at all, even luck, but subconsciously, I am still superstitious. I was raised Christian, so there's just too much bad vibes around desecrating stuff like that. I certainly sin a lot, but I try to avoid offending God... even though I'm sure his existence is a myth

I think it's something only people raised in religion would understand, it's not fully mental, it's more like your nervous system doesn't like it. It's kind of like incest... you just instinctually don't want to do it.

But, well... there's plenty of cultural christians who will blaspheme and commit incest, so it's obviously not universal...

Fascists didn't care for Christianity though. Mussolini was an Atheist and Hitler was some kinda German-worshipper, so whoever is doing that is not fascist.

Nature herself has imprinted on the minds of all the idea of God

Religion makes humans seem important, if you looked at life from a purely materialistic atheist standpoint we're just a few monkeys with guns, so there's no reason a far more intelligent species would have to care about or respect our existence:dizzy:
>>

The old testament god does not care about most humans though. He specifically commands the Israelites to follow a complex set of rules so that they can be less animal and more holy, and even then if they even slightly piss him off he kills or horribly punishes them over and over

That's how every ancient middle eastern god acted, Yahweh was the tribal god of Israel like Baal was to the phoenicians and Ashur to the Assyrians:pata:

It is important to distinguish people who are atheist because they do not believe in God and those who are atheist because they want to feel smart
this distinction I believe exists even among believers, I have met and talked to a few believers who displayed extremely annoying holier-than-thou behaviour because I don't believe in God

I was atheist once and nearly became one of those fedora tipping retards, thankfully I slowly came to realize how shitty some behaviour was, the last straw was a few people posting a picture with the caption "waiting outside the church so we can laugh at the idiots going in", why would anyone be such an asshole to people they probably don't even know?
Anyway, back on topic, imo the people who use their lack of belief as a way to feel smart may still be insecure deep inside, when faced with the unknowns of life man needs some support, whether it be from a loli lover, family or God, but perhaps they are too ashamed of going back to the religion they spat on so much so they seek out other more esoteric religions
