it's pretty good!

I emulate a girlfriend by reading VNs and jerking off with my hand. It works, but it is not a real thing. But it is much cheaper and affordable, so I can tolerate its flaws. Any emulation is just like that.

I've been emulatin' since NESticle back in the DOS days. Now that was an emulator .. yes sir. Written in assembly language and full of more hacks, tricks and workarounds than you could imagine, all to get it running at full speed on a 486.

I do think it's more c00l to own your own gaems, while not all gaems can be bought without losing your parents heritage. But emulators are great and i never notice any issue with gaems not running on mainsystems. +running it on handhels maek them epic just by themself!

i think it's boring. playing console games on consoles is fun!

I've noticed a switch seems to flip inside the brains of Japapanese people on the intarnet that'll make them browbeat the shit out of you (this behaviour only actually works on their fellow yellows) if they catch you even suggesting emulation for that now-unplayable, region specific, 30 year old game that costs triple digits physical thanks to the hipster collector market.

this seems to be a semi-recent thing because I'm used to the late-00s/early-10s where I'd see a lot of japanese players who were very heavily into using MAME for arcade games
you'd also see a ton of Japanese players on GGPO/fightcade and shit
even now, there are a lot more japanese players using arcade data PC rips to play at home than you'd expect; I suspect the majority of high level IIDX and DDR players do it lmao
could just be the arcade player crowd just not caring so much though

I will say that there was definitely a shift where japanese people started getting really fucking anal about piracy, or at least got more vocal about it

Japanese do it almost as much I think. Listen to old j-core stuff like DJ Sharpnel. Do you REALLY think all those samples are from legally-obtained rips of songs? They just have to tatemae like hell about it (sometimes justifiably as it might be to avoid getting caught by the government). You certainly will see them parasitically commenting on illegal uploads of old anime and movies on YT and NND!

I think a lot of it is Japanese normies flooding teh internetz, whereas the net veteran types had more experience with a more free flow of information on it and are more likely to be permissive of it.

The real question: Will their nationalistic tendencies flare up once all the rare old physical game media in their country gets bought up by gaijin with more economic mobility and they can no longer hoard the access of physical versions?
