I took it as a description of the ultimate sense of transcendence and bliss of no-self in being absorbed in action and training. He touched on it in a lot of other forms of training in the book, from weightlifting to running and so on. Mishima was a conservative/reactionary in some ways but was not anti-technology, so I guess a plane would be part of that. I believe there was a quote where he even said that science fiction as a genre was full of potential because it offered the opportunity to go beyond 20th century humanist ideals.
