i've been using a t420 since 2019 and it's very nice aside from a few hardware components being broken when i got it. running an outdated version of windows 10 pro because i ran a script to prevent it from updating to newer versions.

i think the only real difference is the keyboard. i personally strongly prefer the old style keyboard like the one on the t420 over the new style keyboard like the one on the t430.

you can transplant a x220 keyboard into x230. For me x220 is a bit too slow

you can get a used t14 on ebay for real cheap, they're more locked down than the older ones but laptops r all basically disposable these days anyway

Something to know if that older thinkpads have semi-mechanical keyboards, which I prefer. They might also be cheaper.

...huh? But.. I run Linux too.. I have KDE Linux setup on a ThinkPad - I just don't really see the point in going out of your way to buy an enterprise laptop just to browse the internet, something much smaller and cheaper could do that more efficiently

Besides, Android is an open-source Linux distribution, if you install GrapheneOS, the feds can't spy on you, and if you buy one of those fancy Chinese phones with a libre bootloader, they can't spy on you x2

Yes, also, utilize basic mobile sanity, avoid using Bluetooth as much as possible, it is an insecure protocol, containerize your applications, and resist the temptation to ever use Google services.

Disable your sensors when you don't use them either, your phone can see things, motion, tell how high it is from sea level, and send all sorts of packets.

That sounds like a whole lot of unnecessary hardware for just browsing the internet, and a lot of trust placed in stuff actually being "disabled". A laptop doesn't have most of those problems and has a much bigger screen, keyboard, far better software, can be taken apart for repair, hardware upgrades and physically removing unwanted hardware, don't need to "root" or "jailbreak" it just to be able to install software that isn't approved by google or apple, etc.
