In Japan, there’s a term for these people called “Emo-gaki” (エモガキ / kids chasing the trend) a slang word used to refer to “trend kids” who like to bring back stuff from the 2000s (such as low-quality anime screenshots, Windows XP aesthetics, old songs) and post them on TikTok or Reels because they think it feels “emo” (charming, mysterious, vintage), even though they never actually watched or truly cared about those works. They just use it as an aesthetic, that’s all.

Japan is catching on...

If people enjoy old things, what's the big deal? Let kids be nostalgic...
>>
There are a group of people nostalgic for 2000s anime and 2channel etc in Japan too, but there is no such word.

The idea that they enjoy the same things I do is not mutually exclusive with the idea that I find them incredibly annoying or think they have the potential to ruin it (somehow).

Although you can extend that line of thinking to basically everything :x3:

Murder is actually really frowned in Japan. It goes against the traditional concept of 生きる, which means "to live"
>>
good thread, only posers dislike hearing that fact
