While you were busy wasting your time on F.E.A.R., I browsed the internet.

Congrats. Heard highest difficulty is the true way to play that.
>>
awesome op, have you played the expansions? i think they are really good
>>154066
i think the highest difficulty is too punishing for no reason
>>
FEAR is awesome!
I didn't care for the expansions as much but they were still fun too
>>
What's with teh potato grafix OP? It's normally a very visually impressive game

True. I started playing the game on high before switching to extreme halfway through.
Not to brag or anything but I chastised myself by not using the slow mo mechanic and only loading checkpoints , which are surprisingly generous. As in it doesn't send you an hour back to where you started plus it's predictable.
Honestly the #1 strategy that you'd need to apply when playing the game is to use cover.
I even made a little tip list that I check each time before playing to make sure I don't get my ass kicked :nyaoo-closedeyes:.
Constant evaluation of my own mistakes helps with improving my gameplay too.

I've actually already started my Extraction Point playthrough and so far it's a pretty solid start. I'm a big fan of indoor/domestic combat so it was a joy to go through that house level.
Though, story wise, the
"SOMEHOW, PAXTON RETURNED"
part took me out a bit :dark:, but I dont mind it too much.

>higher difficulty is punishing for no reason
Honestly it rarely ever seem that way when I played it. Usually the game automatically turns on the reflex feature whenever they drop a new enemy or an "impossible" situation on the player.

My laptop is extemely bad compared to today's standards and probably even back then, so I had to play the game on a capped 30 FPS for frame stability :sweat2:. Plus, I had to turn on Pixel Doubling which helps A LOT. I wish more games had this option.

Though the lack of quality on the image comes from me needing to run the game on windowed mode so I could take a screenshot. So it's a bit misleading but still somewhat reflects what I have to deal with when playing the game.
>>
>>154069
that is what happens when you set everything to low
i was also surprised to see it becomes something so old-looking
>>

>laptop
you aren't fooling anyone... you only post NES and SNES games, maybe PSX on rare occasions, this screenshot looks exactly like DK Country's 3D effect...
so if OP only has an NES/SNES and sometimes plays PSX on a friends house... this means that he's somehow playing F.E.A.R. on a fucking Super Nintendo!! Σ(;゚∀゚)

I'm actually not the usual guy who posts "while you were wasting" threads. I just felt like continuing this "tradition" if you'd call it that.

Sorry for ruining the joke you set up but I felt like I had to clarify. :sweat2:

not only did you ruin my extremely funny joke, but you also just ruined my innocence and sweet ignorance by revealing that it wasn't only one anon doing these threads...

thanks for the trust issues, picrel ヽ(`Д´)ノ

As you know, F.E.A.R. was originally intended for the Super Famicom, but had to switch development to the Playstation halfway thru because of hardware constraints. After a long time spent in development hell, it finally released on the Playstation 2 in 2003. OP is obviously playing the unreleased prototype ROM.

heh, ez. ( ´,_ゝ`)

it's the fact that you screenshot on windowed instead of fullscreen, right?
also, i beg you to use crt filters if you're not playing on an actual crt (´人`)

>F.E.A.R. is an awesome franchise.
F.E.A.R. is an awesome standalone game, with two other fun follow-ups.
>>
>>154290
the second game is the only one you can consider a fun follow-up, the third game is an insult to F.E.A.R. and gaming in general
>>
>>154321
yeah 3 is garbage, but it still has that F.E.A.R. gunplay, so it can be a decently fun time if you're somehow willing to ignore all the 5000 problems the game has...

talking about F.E.A.R. always makes me sad.

meh
I played until the level set in brazil or whatever, I had no idea what the story was at that point and the gunplay was definitely not F.E.A.R. gunplay, almost 0 horror and the braindead AI was pretending to be smart by shouting "he's behind the door/pillar/etc..." every once in a while
the thing where you gather spiritual power from corpses puts a fucking banner on the screen which reminded me of mobile games
The entire game feels like it was made by people who didn't care and just wanted to get it done asap
