I want to try some kvass but inconsistent reviews have made me unsure what brands are best. Anyone with experience pls give your thoughts about it. thx (´ー` )

There is saying in Russia: bad kvass is better than good water.

the stuff you buy at a store just tastes like soda
if you want the real kvass experience then buy some rye bread, cut it up and toast it until its black, put it in a jar with some water, and add a source of sugar like fruit juice or molasses (white sugar will taste like ass), and ferment it with some yeast
it will taste completely different from the store stuff
my reccomendation overall: just get a good beer instead, like a belgian ale or something
>>
>>150245
also, OP you should look into trying farmhouse ales aswell, they should have a similar taste
>>
>>150245
that sounds very cool, but isnt store bread full of oils and other things? is it okay for that to get into the brew? (´~`c )
>>
>>150248
idk, it seems to work fine for most people, been too long since i made it to remember if it had that problem or not
but that does remind me of the one time i tried to make something out of oatmeal (i was a crafty, but stupid highschool kid at the time) and i shit you not half of the entire brew was just some weird oily substance that made me throw up when i tried it
bread shouldnt do that though
>>
>>150252
Thats kind of what worries me, when the bread breaks down the oil additives would separate wouldnt they? (;゚Д゚)
I have a similar story, i brew ginger beer occasionally and one tiem i made a batch that got some pediococcus in there, it turned the brew into a snotty gunk, literal slime. I tried drinking some, it tasted okay, but i had a debilitating headache for days after, light sensitivity, bizarre eye pain, flu symptoms, all sorts of strange things... That is when i learned to be more serious about PH levels.

it didnt make me sick atleast, just made me throw up because the taste was so immediately vile
if you're worried about it, may as well make a kvass straight from rye grain, shouldn't be very expensive if you know how to brew from grain
>>
>>150255
i wanted to try commercial kvass before making it so i know what flavor profile to aspire to. But if commercial sucks i dont know what to do now. ( ´,_ゝ`)

this is my favorite but its best if you make it your own or get something locally brewed

most KBAC I had outside of Russia are too sugary and sweet. They must make special american version.
avoid this one in the picture, it is not only too sweet but has almost no flavour
I have seen you can buy a 'kit' you use to make KBAC yourself which was alright.
sorry I don't remember which KBAC is the best... I had it so long ago and it was so good I loved it but never remembered which one it was... ( ´,_ゝ`)
all you heyurian slavaboos make me feel bad about being so out of touch with my background

Mnie się wydaje że większość anonów w tej nitce jednak jest słowianami, w końcu oprócz Turków na Heyrui jest pełno Polaków i Rosjan, pare też anonów z Bałkanów tutaj widziałem
