im going to seoul next week on a 747. possibly one of the last times a passenger 747 will be in service since many are being retired. im almost certain that if/when the 777x line comes out the passenger 747s will face a boring life of carrying cheap chinese.indian crap to and from anchorage

was basically the standard for international travel from the 70's to pretty recently. imo its demise was when more fuel effeiecnt twin engine long range planes came out. imo it was a big mistake for boeing to release the 777-200 just a few years after the 747-400 since they were basically comepting for the same customers. before that only quadjets and trijets like the 747/dc-10/L-1011 were the ones able to both comply with etops and have enough range for intercontinental travel. in the end boeing never learnt their lesson and released the 777-300er and 787 line of planes at the same time the 747-8 was coming out.
