Framework laptops are kewl but they have the same shitty trackpad everyone and their mum is carrying nowadays. That makes me teh sad. However, I have discovered the MNT Reformhttps://shop.mntre.com/products/mnt-reformwhich has an interesting trackball+keys instead of the usual touchpad. Don't know if it does the trick because if you have to keep the whole palm on the ball to make it work smoothly, you can't also use the same hand to click the buttons, which is the same fail as modern trackpads.Aside from that, it's even more modular than the framework, which is awesomez! What else even exists in laptops that aren't maximum suckage with their trackpads or otherwise nowadays anyway?Marked for deletion (Old)
this is probably the worst deal i have ever seen. maybe if it were third of the price but as it is now i dont understand why would anyone buy it over a macbook
>>140779apple products are kewl
i own one with touch screen in picrel, worst product ever. besides that i am very happy with my macb00k.
>>140780i mean its a cool share OP but their pricing makes me mad, is all
>>140781Garbage buggy anti-productive software (docker still borked after months ), garbage touchpad, shitty case that dings if you look at it funny.Get out of my thread with these insults!!! It's too bad that everything else is now a shitty clone of macshits. Once upon a time, we were allowed to have good things...
LOL, it's a product. Teh garbage touchpad was realsed 2017 and since then been removed. I was stupid enought to buy one then as it look cool. I NEVAH used it. But that said, i think it's a solid computer that still holds up till today. Most people that haet mac has never used a mac.
>>140795I never hated mac until I was forced to use it for work Colleagues who had not used a mac before typically went through the same. Curious at first, then increasingly disappointed, then pissed off forever.Shit like having to restart your browser or meeting software to enable camera and microphone access, or the aforementioned problem with docker no longer working on mac since ages (with about 10 attempted fixes on both the docker and apple team sides but they still haven't figured it out!), constant nagging popups about logging in to this and updating that or notifications where the 'x' doesn't dismiss but rather activates it because that's what you get for getting a mac you faggot, xcode being shitty yet requiring money, etc. makes the life of a dev who isn't an exec larping as a dev pretty awful.I can imagine it's alright if you just browse facebook, though. At least it's not windows 10 or shitty chink laptop rebrands (though it's getting close).
apple is for eating not computar
キタ━━━(゚∀゚)━━━!!
slop made for "gaymers". just buy an used thinkpad like everybody else
Laptops were designed to break or become obsolete fast to increase profit
It's absolutely not made for gaymers in any way whatsoever But I do agree the rainbow is ricer bullshit
I just bought an Acer Nitro v15 on sale, how fucked am I?
on the topic, panasonic toughbooks give me boners
>>140815What a beast! It makes me weak in the knees~
>Acer Nitro v15If you were my son I would say "son, you disappoint me. Now I disown you"."I thought I raised you better than that, to think you would fall for the 'sale' scam!"
Apple = good hardware, bad software.>>140809>rainbow is ricer bullshitWhat else is there? if you buy a laptop it has rainbow gay lights, if you buy a keyboard it has rainbow gay lights, if you buy a mouse it has rainbow gay lights, if you buy a monitor it shoots rainbow gay lights behind/under it. You can't not have rainbow gay lights on everything.
>>140813after having three dead Acer machines I will NEVER buy Acer againand I have friends who have Acer machines and they're all having weird problems, and the insanely shitty hinge design that they still use to this day likes to fail toofor contrast, I fucking gave in and bought a macbook back when I was in uni and it has been going since 2014, only needing battery replacements (and replacing the battery was easy back then) and I swapped the disk out (this one was annoying because it is proprietary, I needed an adapter)said macbook runs windows and hasn't booted macOS in like 7 yearswouldn't buy Apple in this day and age either, least of all for gaming, but FUCK Acer
>>140815SOUL
>>140808Everything is designed to break or become obsolete fast to increase profit
I found this on clearance for £300, I couldn't resist it, although I have no real purpose for it. Maybe play untranslated VNs on it with a text extractor to generate translations on the fly on the lower screen.
Lenovo (running Linux) even older ones worth $20 are worth keeping. Or MacBook.
>slop made for "gaymers". just buy an used thinkpad like everybody elsei have a fear of used laptops ever since i bought one and it had teh aids
>But I do agree the rainbow is ricer bullshit>You can't not have rainbow gay lights on everything.I have a Lenovo Legion 5 and it has a backlit keyboard with white LEDs. I'm of the opinion that rainbow = teh ghey and the equivalent of that quote from MGS5, while solid color lights are practical for late night use. But to be honest, I'd like to put engravings on a gun if I could...
>>140952Engravings lower enemy morale because they're jealous of your cool gun.
>>140952>that quote from MGS5 shameful display it's from 3, in the scene where snake is making fun of ocelot for being too flashy.
>>140964I didn't play 3... or 5 for that matter. Please forgive me for my shameful display, Colonel. I have much to learn before I am ready to begin to my mission.
laptops use to be cool, now they are all the same wannabe macbook clones
>>141006That's exactly what I'm talking about Surely there will be some startup somewhere that will come and save us from this tech desert?
>>140833Apple has always and continues to have absolutely awful hardware. But the chassis looks nice I guess. In the laptops anyway, the rest's a shitshow.A $2500 macbook has the same hardware (minus the screen, which is admittedly almost always better in the mac, and the touchpad, which, although total trash, is still the king of the shitpile) as a $700 craptop from china. They also often have issues with thermal throttling which makes their hardware performs 1/10th as well as it ought to due to bad design.
>>140798Nekos understand this. I do not understand how it is so hard for so many people to understand this.
>>140946That's why you always disinfect bought laptops with isopropyl alcohol and install the OS yourself even if it comes with one preinstalled.
>>140946funny you mention that, since my T400 came with some sticky tar-like substance smeared all over the top and still didn't manage to fully clean it it was still worth it though
>>140779sadly I cannot recommend the Reform Σ(;゚Д゚) I bought one as part of the original Kickstarter campaign. The processor in it is absolutely anemic. Even the newer model with an RK8355 is peanuts compared to what Framework offers ┐(゚~゚)┌The keyboard and trackball are nice. The batteries are a real problem though there was an issue with the firmware for the battery controller that would make it so the replaceable LiFePO4 batteries would become PERMANENTLY UNUSABLE if not charged for more than like 2 weeks.
>>140806>>140861I don't know what pigs or religion has to do with anything.
>>141104That's a right shame. Thanks for the heads up, though. Time to look for other options again...
>>140868If you build your own PC it can last up to 8 years ヽ(´ー`)ノ
>>141170That's why framework or MNT reform are super cool in theory, you can build your own laptop, which isn't really possible otherwise. Also if you build your own desktop in an ATX format that can last indefinitely. You'll just have to change the motherboard when you change the CPU every 10 years, the rest of the components can easily be upgraded as-needed.
>>141175what's an mnt reform? elaborate pls (´人`)
>>140909nice discord fag
>>141091i let my cat bite my screen... and it cracked!the shock...
>>141183It's the laptop in the OP, which is meant to be fully customizable to the point of individual cells in the battery.
>>141189Why isn't it possible otherwise?
>>141197The hardware is designed not to be tampered with, requiring either custom equipment from the manufacturer, or welding and soldering to do what you need. Partly for liability reasons (e.g. warranty invalidation), partly to make things "thinner" and "lighter", partly for "safety" reasons (in particular when it comes to changing battery cells, you don't want this to be attempted by a 60 IQ baboon). At least that's the party line, but we all know it's really about planned obsolescence. The less people can fix things themselves, the more they have to buy the new stuff every 2 years.
>>141198Can't you just buy the individual components and stick em in a box like a cyberdeck?
>>141200No, for example RAM is now soldered on the motherboard of virtually all laptops and can't be removed without soldering. I believe the ssd on macs is also soldered-on nowadays. For batteries, they are typically no longer replaceable (used to be you could replace it, but not individual cells: just the whole block): no removable part, you'd have to break the case to get to the battery. Things like that
>>141201I mean actually getting all of the components like the motherboard and the main memory and joining them together
>>141202Yes, this can be done. That's actually more or less what the MNT Reform is. But without fixing a few things, you'll get something not portable that runs too hot or has no good battery solution. For example, you could use a portable monitor, a docking station with a keyboard and mouse, and a raspberry pi or a NUC, even with an eGPU with an eGPU case, plus a PSU. But good luck moving it around and setting it up e.g. to work on the train or between home and the office or whatnot.
>>141204I see... yeah, it does look too bulky to be carried around easily. Welp, I'm happy with my t400 anyway
