Does anyone here have experience with Meshtastic? I want to build an off-grid network

it seems really cool, but i feel like im too much of a dummy to set it up, and i wouldnt have anyone to talk to with it anyway. (;´Д`)

I wish we could talk over meshnet...

I do! It's more my dad's hobby than mine, but I have a couple of Meshtastic devices - one of which is permanently on in the attic with a reasonably large arial attached to it

There's loadz of nodes around these parts - to the point where I can talk to the next town over despite the big hill in the way - but most people you'll find on there are the usual middle-aged radio geeks and ex-CB radio users. And of course, most of the messages in the public channel are just test messages sweat2

I've been wanting to get one for me and a friend and put a node in between us. I've been thinking to 3d print a box that can be zip tied to the top of a baseball cage and I'll put a tbeam powered by a set of 18650s getting power from a solar panel
