Why do numbers go from right to left? Why is the number ten written as 10 instead of 01?

Think of it this way, if you have the number 1111111111111111, if you add 1 to it, why do you add it to the last digit instead of the first one? It would make more sense for it to become 2111111111111111 than 1111111111111112.

The conventional right-to-left representation is a natural consequence of the positional numeral system's structure, where each digit embodies a power of the base (in this case, 10) and is defined by modular arithmetic such that the least significant digit (governed by congruence modulo 10) is processed first, this configuration inherently optimizes the carry propagation mechanism during addition, as demonstrated when incrementing a numeral like 1111111111111111 where the arithmetic algorithm commences from the minimal unit (the rightmost digit) and recursively handles any overflow in a manner consistent with the axioms of cyclic groups and monoid structures in abstract algebra, thus ensuring that each successive digit only assumes its updated value once its lower-order counterparts have been resolved - a methodology that, although counterintuitive from a purely left-to-right reading perspective, is indispensable for the computational integrity and algorithmic efficiency of our numeral system, thereby rendering the number ten as 10 rather than 01.

lol numbers

didn't read. konata avatarfag is dumb as brick
>>
i think the system came from arabic or indian
they right from the right to left and they had your idea op and it worked with their writing system
>>
It's because the numeral system that we use has been transmitted from the Indians to the Europeans by the Arabs, who write from right to left

New executive order: numbers shall now be written in AMERICAN left to right.
>>
>>134316
right? it makes no sense when you think about it.
>>
I always read numbers like they are going from left to right. Like 12 is 10+2, so it makes sense to put what represents the largest number first. If 12 was written as "21", and I was reading that number in a sentence I would have look ahead a space to look at the last number first.

So I don't know what the Indians and Arabs were thinking ordering the numbers like that if they read right to left, that would be retarded.
>>
>>134354
they had the same idea as op which makes sense to me
>>
Cuz we read & write left-to-right, and the English-speaking convention is to call 1,234 "one thousand, two hundred and thirty-four", not "four-thirty, hundred two and thousand one"
>>
>>134383
we read it like that because we write like that
not the other way around
the numeral system we use didn't come from a left to right language
OP's had the right idea, and it works with the original writing system that goes from right to left
>>
>>134354
It actually makes perfect sense. You would be reading it as 2 + 01

Hi there! Glad to see that your board even supports Cyrillic, though it looks strange. And I can even post here! 4chan doesn't allow because of russian ip, and with changed by vpn ip as well...
>>
>>134544
That sucks, but you're welcome here! Though if you ask me it's for the better, 4chan isn't in a great state nowadays. sweat2

Never was, since I first visited it. It's too dirty. We have an analogue, biggest russian speaking imageboard, and I think people there are the same: toxic, rude and only hate everything and everyone. That's the reason people search for better, comfy places to settle - small boards. This is how I found an international list of imageboards, and here I am. Sorry for my poor english, try almost not to use a translator

Indeed, that's how I found Heyuri too. I grew exhausted of 4chan so I went out of my way to search for alternatives, and now here I am.

Don't feel bad, we have a lot more ESLs than you think. Including our admin! ヽ(´∇`)ノ

I think Cyrillic just isn't fully supported by the fonts, but it looks normal on Futaba theme

Not Russian but my national imageboard sux too.
I've also seen more niche, fun ru imageboards but that was years ago. Glad u found your way to Heyuri
And broken English is most welcome, yours is understandable enough nyaoo-closedeyes

4chan was only good and fun for like 6 years, then it went to shit, they did you a favor by not letting you use it.

In my language there are quite good boards, but it may be hard to connect there for strangers.

Haha, people say the same here about our biggest imageboard here, those who were there in late 2000s.

isnt sosach full of bot threads? years ago ive seen the same ragebite threads being reposted with no replies
>That's the reason people search for better, comfy places to settle - small boards.
people don't, because there are no people left on sosach. most people know sosach as a telegram group with memes
...and then you go look at "small" boards and realize they are no different from chats, always the same people and same topics you should fit in
there is nothing wrong with chats or small boards, its just... there are no people left on teh wired. even here on heyuri i see a user who i know for years and i know its exactly him because no one else posts paedo shit

Yeah, it seems so.
В тематиках однако все еще можно получить общение или совет по определенной теме... Все еще может быть полезно.

Yes indeed! But it's ok as temporary option I think.
