seconding this as someone who used to mostly go on /b/ there
it eternally pains me that /b/ became fucking /b/oring...

/b/ 5 years ago was the same handful of categories of thread on repeat forever (rekt, sissy, "asian" where only the first three pics weren't shit, loli, ylyl that was like 70% banana by volume, creepshots, and some other thing I'm forgetting).
the only "new" thing is the AI threads

just the most boring fucking place
a complete zombie shell of a board, shambling on into the dusk ( ´_ゝ`)
>>
Meanwhile blue boards are more invested in responding to the same bait every time rather than making good threads.
>>
>>114421
this shit got me to leave teh site for good
seeing the same arguments day in, day out
and seeing everyone who wanted to carry on a discussion grow fewer and fewer as time passed

once that shit hit /jp/ in force, that was it, I was done ( ´,_ゝ`)

i last checked it 4 years ago
there were some funny threads that attempted to do something other than the regular trash
i used to make light hearted threads biggrin

This is Heyuri, so I understand most of us either lived through an age of internet that was passable or learned through Heyuri of what the internet used to be, and as such we understand that 4chan and the internet as a whole "went to shit" much farther back than 2020 or 2016 or 2006. I'm willing to give OP the benefit of the doubt that they know this well, too. But seriously, if you haven't gone onto 4chan for a while, I implore you to take a look at /b/ or something. It's the worst it could ever possibly be. I'm pretty sure it's just the same dozen robots fighting amongst themselves and a few real people engage with it out of boredom, all the while potentially interesting threads are either ignored or derailed by the robots a few posts in. The swine are offered cake and choose to eat shit.

Even four years ago I could go on something like /vr/ and talk about a game or something, without much fuss. A few people were left to know when to not engage with a shitstirrer. Knowing when not to engage is what makes a community of any kind live, and 4chan has nobody that knows how anymore.

I hope Heyuri as a whole learns from 4chan in that regard. Someone will always be there to offer you shit, you can't help that, but it is up to you to choose the cake.

Fun except some lingo, but it feels like being the outlander trying to have fun in the Serious Business porn board sweat2
>>
>>114433
It felt to me that niche boards like /vr/ & /m/ & /po/ are unchanging in the terms of having fun, but I'm not a common user so I might have been wrong
>>
>>114433
People in Heyuri seem pretty good at trying to find something fun in everything, and turn boring threads and lame posts around.

/po/ is great because it's so abysmally slow that no one is there just to get a quick rise
/m/ is worse than before, but last I saw of it, it was still a board for people who enjoyed things
there was a point where /vr/ got really, really angry and never seemed to get better, I dropped it some years ago before I left 4chan
>>
anyone know where /jp/ is today i stopped going there 5 ish years ago i only go to /c/ today
>>
I dont understand 4chan these days. It was quite obvious to me that these threads on /v/ are not organic, but periodically reposted to generate engagement. Hell, even the replies were the same. Do people not notice? Why do they still partake in these baits?

Other than that I think some niche threads are nice. I really liked our discussions in onaho general.
>>
Most 4chan users these days must be bots and seriously drug/alcohol addicted zombies that can't remember anything they read or wrote yesterday so they're stuck in an endless loop of reading and replying to the same shit every day. Also baby boomers that heard about 4chan on TV or facebook.

Not really. The /b/ I knew and enjoyed died a long time ago, long before the days of funny bananas, and American politics.

>>
it is my opinion that 4chan is mostly bots and people trying too hard
i think the people replying to obvious bait threads are either bots or have never been on the internet before, then there's the ones that keep saying nigger, tranny, kys as if any of those words had any weight behind it anymore, i think they do it to try and fit in with the cool "internet hate machine"
>>
>Most 4chan users these days must be bots and seriously drug/alcohol addicted zombies
>it is my opinion that 4chan is mostly bots and people trying too hard
>Do people not notice?
I think another demographic is the users that do in fact notice how shit sux but think "well, nobody else wants to change it, why should I bother?" So it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy of endless garbage, because the users are too apathetic to care about putting in any work to make it less shit. Not liek there's not a plethora of other problems plaguing 4chan already, but the willingness to go with the status quo is what one of them.

4chan is too big for it's own good. thus, it's 2 late.

like living things boards have life cycles. they have 6-8 years in the sun and then slowly wither and die. /b/ is expired milk.
>>
>>114391
4chan, with most boards, went to shiz I'm sorry OP
>>
i remember going to /lit/ on da 4chanz and thinking it would be alright because i thought: "surely the act of reading actual books will filter all of the idiots, trolls, bad faith actors and so on!".

i lurked here and there for a couple of months, and although i did find some marginally engaging and thought provoking content in my time there, i eventually realized that the same problems that plague what seems like all the boards on 4chan also plague /lit/, with the only difference being that /lit/ disguises itself with the veil of intellectuality.

Which i think is a most heinous crime, even worse than the other boards, which seem to be unrepentant about their lack of quality.

when i wanted to adapt i read a lot of wikis and archives, incubated a bit on 4chan and looked up all things that i did not know, looked at other chans, gathered old content and cultural movements, looked at how old internet had been in general, looked how they behave on older and inactive chans

then i found a spot that i like in chans and i think i imitate fairly ok now

You b& one of the few 2000s oldfags here for engaging in shitflinging started by a self-proclaimed "imitator", in the thread specifically for ranting about how/why modern 4chan is such shit?

start by lurking our archives

then complain on site discussion if the error persists

Some of the problems with current 4chan were there at the beginning and some are new. Its not the case that there was a good old 4chan and a shid nu4chan, although nu4chan is pretty shit. Its just different kinds of shit and different gradations.

I feel like the biggest thing that happened is that there's no real culture of fun anymore there.
This affected a lot of the internet, but 4chan in particular went from being edgy for teh lulz to being edgy just to piss people off, regardless of whether or not it was in fact lulzy. It's always angry there now, there's always an argument, you're always fighting with someone who is deliberately replying in a way to avert actually talking about things since it keeps people responding (in anger). Comics and OC went from funny faces to literally the ugliest things I've seen in my life. No more "trolling", now it's "bait" -- posting anything to get any engagement whatsoever, especially since a well thought out reply will just be ignored.

you could totally talk about how bad old 4chan could be and go on for hours if not days, but goddamn, if you see how https://museum.heyuri.net/4chan2004/imgboard__1.htm looks, /b/ circa 2004, you can absolutely see just why heyuri wants to revive the way things used to be
>>
This thread might have already served its purpose, though to encapsulate everything said here I'd like to paraphrase a reply chain I saw on a new 4chan thread a few days ago, which I think explains everything:

Anon 1: I like the original design for that character, it looks cooler than what we got.

Anon 2: How could you prefer that KEEEEEEEEEEEEK (derogatory respelling of the artist's name)'s """""""''art""""""""""" is only really liked by autistic nigger faggots on xitter and (screenshots of social media drama alluded to) (more social media drama) you're probably (accusing anon 1 of being on the wrong side of the social media drama) (social media shibboleth) (shibboleth) keystrokes keystrokes keystrokes

Anon 1: I don't know man, I just like it.

Anon 2 never responded, it seems.

>>114797

>>
>>114797
to be fair, trolling and obnoxious "HOW DARE YOU LIKE ARTIST I DON'T LIKE" posters like that have always existed, today they thrive off xitter drama but back then they thrived off dA and LJ drama. I guess the only difference is that there's little to no quality posters to counter balance them.
>>
I know a lot of people blame "normies" or "normalfags" for this, but it's only really half the truth. In actuality, normal people have been on the internet since its inception, the difference between then and now is simply the sheer number of users online. In the past, the neat thing about the internet was that you could do whatever you wanted and only some randos across the world would care. But with how prevalent the internet is in daily life nowadays, you now have to deal with the very real statistical possibility of someone you know finding out about every embarrassing thing you've ever done. "Normal" people are actually pretty lulzier than you'd expect, but now it's harder for "normal" people to get away with doing those things when they now have the chance of getting caught by their employer and having their lives ruined.

TL;DR: Most internet users are forced to conform to normal (read: boring) behavior now that everyone and their grandma are now online.

I know this isn't directly related, but I've been trying to mention it since this part of imageboard discussion has always bothered me.
>>
/b/ was never good.
