heyuri I have a confession to make...
I only started being an otaku around 15 yo, which i think is very late. Now I have a job and other things, its eating most of my time. I see japanese ppl who know all the episodes of precure, or doraemon. I see dudes on imageboards who have opinions on all anime that ever existed, but I forgot the plot of anime i watched 4 years ago...

I missed the bus... I feel like i'll never have the time to watch all the cool stuff that interests me. my anime list keeps growing and I only finish a series every month
How do fellow company slaves find the time...?

Well I'm a NEET so I have all the time in the world but I would say if the desire to watch anime doesn't come naturally then don't force it. There are other otaku adjacent passtimes you may enjoy like vidya, drawing, collecting and saving pics into your hard drive. I don't know, I think it's better to be honest with yourself and don't force yourself into being a diehard otaku if you weren't born one. I'm telling you this because it sounds more like you make up excuses to "fit in" rather than being honest. I mean, an episode is 23 minutes on average, I don't believe you can't find 23 minutes a week to watch an episode.
>>
Forcing a pattern upon yourself reduces probability of doing something original that turns out to be great. My case is similar, but I do my stuff and if someone were to investigate me they would conclude I am a geek beyond redemption despite not doing much of what otakus are associated with stereotypically / surface level impressions. I picked a very narrow and specific path, very specific activities. If you are a base otaku and you pick a narrow specific path of choice somewhat related to otaku things you are even more of an otaku. Anime doesnt bring me as much joy as it used to, I hardly watch any anymore. I mostly watch documentaries all day long, collect very specific items, and utilize electronics in very specific ways. I forgot much of anime too. biggrin

>I only started being an otaku around 15 yo, which i think is very late
That's laughable, stop worrying about silly stuff like that.
>How do fellow company slaves find the time...?
Find a way to stop being a wageslave if you value your short time in this life. I'm in my 30s and have been a NEET since I dropped out of school at 16 and if I continue being a NEET until age 100 there still won't be enough time to watch/play/read all the media I want to.
>I forgot the plot of anime i watched 4 years ago
That'll happen. If it was something you enjoyed watching now you can enjoy watching it again. biggrin
>>
>I'm in my 30s and have been a NEET since I dropped out of school at 16
I didn't expect to meet my doppelganger here astonish

Also think worrying about amount of media you consumed is laughable. What matters is the enjoyment you get during the time you spend consuming them - and looking from bright side, you probably still have tons of great media to enjoy biggrin
And of course, if you don't enjoy anime it's stupid to waste your precious free time watching it. It's probably normal to feel the greed to have consumed all media evar, I have it too, but I (personally) truly and exclusively enjoy consuming 2D media. nyaoo
Adding, noone actually cares about what you have or haven't watched beyond surface level, nor will judge you for it. On internets, I care much more about the amount of fun engagement I get from you, ie. how much you contribute to Heyuri

What is really bad is the time we suffer from doing not what we want to be doing tens of hours a week, and not having enough energy left in evenings to do anything other than eat & fap & head to bed dark

The replies are interesting but i feel like i phrased badly and u guys are under the impression i only care about appearance

I just feel bad when i see all the anime and manga that sounds cool but many i don't start because i'm not even done with my watch list. I don't know how the japs and otaku make it, is more what i meant

also for example I started fullmetal alchemist back when i didn't really care and stopped at around 10th episode. Now i forgot everything about it, if i want to start again i have to watch all again. It feels like i just wasted my time before, instead of finishing what i started and making memories. and many such examples...
sorry for the random rambling, i hope cool pics can make for it smile

Just take it one step at a time nyaoo2

You and I probably share the same mindset, except mine is over media in general. I have actual excel files listing my videogame, movie and book backlogs. On top of that i have a couple of TV shows/anime downloaded plus Grant Morisson's New X-Men series. Right now i watch an episode of I Love Lucy every saturday, an episode of X-Files on sundays, and then watch an episode of Daria, Black Lagoon or an X-Men chapter from time to time.

The most important advice i can give you is to take your time. If you watch an episode a day of some anime it'll start blending together, if you finish a book and then rush to start another you won't really interiorize your experience with the previous, etc. Let your mind digest, so to speak. It's about the journey, not the destination mona2

You'll never have time to watch, play, read, etc. everything you want to over the course of your life. Neither will I. But no amount of media will ever make you reach enlightenment. Once you make peace with that, just watch, play, or read what interests you and makes you happy. It's not a competition, and people who treat it like one are losers.

I honestly relate to this struggle, at times it's gotten so bad that I not only had no motivation to watch anime, but also got really anxious at the thought of anything related to it, though I feel like I'm coming out of that stronger than before. I think what's been helping me is not worrying too much about what others would want me to do or if I'm enjoying things in the "right" way, and trying to remember exactly what I like about anime and enjoying it for that, and also not feeling like everything I have to do for fun has to relate to anime, accepting things that I like that aren't related to it, and remembering why I enjoy them too. Also I don't want you to feel like you have to force yourself to do exactly what people who are trying to "help" you suggest that you do, because that happened to me, honestly I'm no longer part of most of the friend groups that did that kind of thing to me and I feel like it's helped me reflect a good amount on how I see this stuff, I hope we can come out of it together

LOLicon! As someone in their 30s and never stopped watching since i was around 15~, it's kind of funny. You have all teh time in teh world! unless you become a normie with kids, & friends and a regular life.

I still watch anime, and cannot stop unless i seen all shows one are supposed to see - and that roof, that limit never cease to slim down. You always learn more of teh people behind teh production etc - which director maed what or which voice actors played what roles. And you find spiral after spiral of things you wanna watch. Even worse, as I doesn't separate new vs. old - so new anime get released year after year. All of it is really good - while older anime around 2000~ haev cutest artstyle! Watching anime from 2000~ maeks me feel part of an era of japanese hardcore otaku nostalgia that are long lost! Sadly much of what is "good" today is overly pushed beyond by hype.

There's a big issue of wanting more freetime, as yes, there's a limit on how much one can watch. And it's heartbreaking as my time is rather slim. I haev countless of anime i wanna watch- and thus, if i really don't enjoy watching something - I started to drop it rather fast as there's always something else i wanna watch. No one cares what you watched or not, it's just a fake illusion. And if you seen 3 ep of something, at least you know what it is about. But yeah, dropping an anime sux if you wanna rewatch it later. It is a waste!

But all of this, goes all ways, no matter what freetime you choose. I've others things I would also luv to do, and when it comes to regular movies and tv serie - i missed so much of classic cult films etc.

In teh end, just watch what you enjoy and stop caring. As in teh end it's your hobby - and not a chore. And if you don't care about watching, why watch? I watch for myself. I am just curious to find teh most otaku anime and VN out there.

I already feel old in 20s and miss being a teenager liek characters in animu, then I remember there are otaku on internet more than x2 of my age. ph34r

Incorrect, new shit sucks and it's only going to get worse as DEI is slowly getting ahold of Japan

hello. i was tsundere for anime (strong attachment to wanting to fit in and not become an outcast/be more normie) and only started watching stuff around 16. from what i can gather from your post is that more than just a failure to pursue anime, it is likely that life stress has caught up to you. time to heal, time to grow in that healed state to be more mature and face the world with more craft, is necessary to overcome the critical collapse of that loving self sustaining energy that normally fuels the self to act in love and kindness in all things. i pray for you my friend, as i myself am still such a slave to my past and pursuit of pleasure to abate it, running from healing and the more emotionally attuned self i see myself as becoming after healing. please do not despair, and if you have reliable people to turn to to give you a lot of unconditional love (think of the power of a pure and loving mother) please do not be afraid to turn to them. if you can surrender to the emergence of a new self who operates on principles of loving kindness, and learn not to fall into the trap of attaching to physical pursuits and escaping the present moment, then you will find great victory. God bless you

In what ways has western influence made all new anime suck? I can count more series I like from the last 5 years than from the entire 20th century.
