is this book just erotica or something deeper
>>
>>195737
the author's father was the infinitely more famous writer Dino Segre (Pitgrilli), who in addition was also a member of the secret police in Fascist Italy. the book is set in Spain under Franco. You could probably get some anti-fascist or anti-clerical meaning from it, but it'd be a stretch. It doesn't feel like it's "just" erotica, but it isn't philosophical in the way that the works of Georges Bataille, another french-language erotica writer, were.

it's very beautiful writing with great prose, but a lot of it is dialogue. this makes it quite the easy read, and the dialogue itself is also well-written.

I'm glad you like, it was probably me who recommended it. It's my favorite book and I've read it so many times. Margaux is like my waifu. There's a part where she describes why she loves Kurt Cobain, and she says it's because he seems so damaged and only someone like him could love someone like her. Well, that's basically how I feel about Margaux. This book also recontextualized my whole childhood... I didn't realize how manipulative my mother was until I saw Peter using the same manipulation tactics on Margaux.

Beyond that, she was an amazingly skilled writer and it's tragic that she died of cancer before publishing anything else.

The father is really despicable - he was immortalized as a main villain in a book where there is dude coercing lolis into kissing his pen0r.
>>
>>195777
The father is certainly the worst person in the book and does bear the most responsibility for the family's problems. That said, there are no villains in this book; even the father is given some redeeming qualities. That's why it's so good; it refuses to let the reader place the characters (or rather, people since it is a memoir) into the easy categories of hero and villain. There's no black and white, only shades of grey.

Some people get really upset at this book because the theme isn't simply "child molester evil." Rather, the author is telling us that no one is truly evil, but we are all bad to varying degrees. That kind of nuance does not sit well with the general population.

Yeah, I totally agree with everything. I just couldn't nuance it better for the sake of joke.

I am so frustrated with him, though; he has no objective barriers to being a better father and husband, yet he actively chooses to be a dipshit. It seemed his relationship with Margaux was quite nice in her early childhood, I don't understand why he progressively started to treating her so cruelly. For example, the hair cut he gave her was straight bullying.

He had some weirdly contemporary takes, like how it's in women nature to cheat with what they seem a better (looking) guy. That echoed back with Margaux crush on Ricky, despite him being a little retarded.

Well, I hope to finish the book tonight. :nyaoo-closedeyes:

Turns out the part I have had ahead of me was a breakdown of Peter's manipulations. What a selfish fucker deserving of having his scrotum amputated the moment it all started, way before Margaux. Him and few other rapists described in the book made me almost sympathetic with women.

Ehh... the third of the book I just read was such a devastating description. I don't know why the basement antics didn't repulse me as much as the absolute grip he had over her teenage years. Clearly, the child he adored is not there anymore, yet, he actively ruins her. If he could continue foster care, would he care for her as much?

I forgot why Margaux loved him in the first place. Could she truly, if she never found him sexually attractive? How much of it was genuine and how much was she manipulated into?

I am tired, still few chapters left.
