What smuggling techniques are still viable in the current era?

For administrative/legal purposes smuggling could be anything -- bringing Bibles into North Korea, pork into the Middle East, heritage strains of catnip, etc. An example: I don't know why it happened but when I wanted to mail an Amazon Kindle from China to Europe it did not clear customs on the China side until I scraped off the Amazon logos on the device.

It seems to me that for smaller quantities of prohibited items, snail mail is better than physically bringing objects on your person through airport. The volume of mail that standard mail processing centers see make it virtually impossible for agents to detect, e.g. 5 grams of powder, microsd card, small amounts of paper money, etc.

When transporting things of very small volume, my best approach at the airport has either been sewing things into the hems of my clothes or doing creative packaging. e.g forbidden candies containing High Fructose Corn Syrup and red #40 are mixed in with regular candies in a bag, bag resealed. Or seeds of tea trees mixed in with a bag of coffee beans which are easily separated out after clearing the border.

... airport police are mostly looking for bombs, quantities of precious metals, quantities of foreign currency, quantities of controlled substances.... things that are ultimately small potatoes and gray area on scanners should make it through, too much stuff is passing through customs every day to warrant full investigations of every possibly suspicious package
