Not really, at least not compared to the first two games. Even if judged on its own, there's a clear lack of focus on fundamental platforming in the core design of the game. Even in DKC1 you could tell that every level was built around a basic idea, a clear concept, however, this installment can simply be described as gimmicky. No two levels are the same. Obviously this avoids repetitiveness, but it also means no stage can be built off of previous design, given that each has to introduce a certain mechanic/situation that gets tossed to the side as soon as the player pops back up on the map screen
