The blue-striped shirt underneath the camo is what gives it away. It's called a Telnyashka, and Russian soldiers today are still issued them.
Which would mean this picture depicts the Soviet-Afghan War. And what probably happened to most POWs captured by Mujahideen rebels... (;´Д`)
