Anyone here been to Spanish speaking countries in South America? I learned Russian when I was a teenager cause I was a Russophile and I thought I would be able to travel throughout the whole post Soviet Union with it, while this is true, the truth is that tickets there from America are extremely expensive and unless you're going to Central Asia (where I did live), its hard to navigate the countries without having to pass through Russia which for an American is worrying (just as worrying as getting picked up by FSB as getting picked up at the returning airport and interrogated why I visited a hostile country).

Therefore, I've been wanting to learn Spanish. I can get a roundtrip ticket from my local airport to Lima, Peru for less than $500. My dad went to Ecuador once and said it was awesome. I've read half a dozen books about Europeans buying a car in Spain, traveling around Africa and then selling it in Morocco when they were done. I figure I could do a similar thing, buy a 125cc motorcycle in the city, fuck off to the Amazonian areas for a week or two then come back, sell the bike and then come back home.

I would have to learn Spanish of course, but this already is proving way easier than Russian ever did. Plus I am doing a TESOL minor so I have the opportunity after next semester to teach English in Puebla state, Mexico so I'm sure I could get a lot of immersion there.
