They either will succeed or already succeeded on locked down electronics at fixed prices, no right to repair / no right to do stuff on your own so that you have to overpay for tools necessary for self sufficiency like farming equipment, like needing a stamp and permission for anything you do on your own land, like needing a certified doctor or certified medicine that is usually basic and extremely overpaid. Future generation will hate it. I am uncertain how it will turn out. Too hard to speculate just yet.

i think this will fail because at least one power is quite willing to run a grey market wherever the western solution to goods is lacking. moreover, a substantial number of economically capable youths are simply opting to leave the west given they can make their money online. tragically i am not one such person, and i am likely stuck here for the forseeable. i hope chinese lithography takes off big and they destroy the western monopoly on computing.

Like you said, too early to tell. I don't fully believe the first part is guaranteed, if only because being able to rage at someone feels amazing, doubly so if it makes you look better than them.
