so deep

the past was objectively bettar (especially the internet - which i assume is what heyurians miss the most), but there's no going back to it. there isn't much to do other than accept that you're stuck in the present and try to make the most of it. ┐(゚~゚)┌

yeah - avoid as much of the current cancer as possible, like ""social media"", and all the stupid news and political stupidity designed to make you miserable.

the life of the ignorant is the life of the happy (・ω・)

Yeah, like others have said, avoid everything new (at risk of becoming insular, if you care about that), try to hold on to what you can and move forward in spite of it all. Its an unfortunate thing, but Time does not seem to care for our feelings.

Slight tangent, but I dont know why some people take it upon themselves (even on this site, we've had a couple threads like these before) to try and convince people who have a longing for the past that things weren't that good, that they're looking at things like the old internet through rose tinted glasses, etc. Which is just funny to read on heyuri, I thought trying to bring back aspects of the old internet back one of the reasons behind this site's existence.

I think its important to have these threads once in a while because it reminds us of how good things were, and to give us sort of a goal to aim for, you know, like that one quote some might have seen on a poster in their elementary school classroom: "Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you'll land among the stars!".

Yeah, I suppose it can get old, this longing for the past stuff, and maybe having a direct return to the old internet to then have things stagnate there might turn out to be really boring, but to try and say that things weren't better then than they are now is just a complete lie.

Personally, I think things like that are part of a grand psyop to get you to accept the shittyness of today's world. But I am prone to paranoia and schizotypal thinking, so... grain of salt.

I don't know if this is true, but it's like they keep insisting that there "needs" to be a "trade-off" between the amazing communities of the past with horrible internet speeds and file capacities, and the horrible people in the present with lightning fast connections and huge storage sizes. Why must there be?! Why can't you have the cool forums of old with the amazing servers of today?

>Personally, I think things like that are part of a grand psyop to get you to accept the shittyness of today's world.
An even worse idea is that there is no psyop because there is no one planning or controlling this. That everyone mocking you for ""nostalgia"" isn't being paid off by a grand conspiracy, and that there are people on the internet that genuinely believe this and are willing to spend time and energy to make sure you buy into it as well.

I'm one of the anons that said something like that in a previous thread, and I was simply comparing the past to the present, not saying we can't have both now. I remember someone else saying they would actually take a one way trip in a time machine to the past if they could. Remembering the bad things about the past helps you enjoy the present more, and all the time spent complaining about how much better communities were back then could instead be spent posting fun things here.

it wasn't objectively better, it's just that the things you like were peaking back then. I've been thinking about it recently and there's pretty much no point in becoming an anime nerd past 2007 or so. It hit its high-water mark in 2005 along with a bunch of other subculture bullshit.

>Why can't you have the cool forums of old with the amazing servers of today?
Because the money and effort poured into making the Internet fast was meant to have it everywhere all the time in everyone's faces. I don't mind having slow, old shit and I don't get why younger people insist on having fast everything (´¬`)

That's a problem I have with other, larger websites: every time something fun happens you get about five posts in before someone starts bemoaning the modern times and saying how "old" the post feels. I can't stand it! Have fun in the moment!
