In Japan, there’s a term for these people called “Emo-gaki” (エモガキ / kids chasing the trend) a slang word used to refer to “trend kids” who like to bring back stuff from the 2000s (such as low-quality anime screenshots, Windows XP aesthetics, old songs) and post them on TikTok or Reels because they think it feels “emo” (charming, mysterious, vintage), even though they never actually watched or truly cared about those works. They just use it as an aesthetic, that’s all.

Japan is catching on...

If people enjoy old things, what's the big deal? Let kids be nostalgic...
>>
There are a group of people nostalgic for 2000s anime and 2channel etc in Japan too, but there is no such word.

The idea that they enjoy the same things I do is not mutually exclusive with the idea that I find them incredibly annoying or think they have the potential to ruin it (somehow).

Although you can extend that line of thinking to basically everything :x3:

Murder is actually really frowned in Japan. It goes against the traditional concept of 生きる, which means "to live"

good thread, only posers dislike hearing that fact

Why autosaged?
Give it 5 more years and a new generation will start being obsessed with the 2010s. And the older generation had vaporwave for instance. It goes much further than that too, this phenomenon of "faux nostalgia" isn't new.
It should be common knowledge that a "thing" becoming mainstream will most likely change, sooner or later, and its "fanbase?" can divide to those before and after the popularity wave. I wanted to write more but got stuck in a thought loop; it sucks that these "trend kids" don't care to educate themselves about what they like. They will move on and so will the trend, and on what website did you read this post? What was its original goal? :foruda: :foruda: :foruda:

Cuz faganon called and said all the "XYZ people are annoying and I'm gonna complain about them on Heyuri.net" threads lately were infringing on his gimmick
