why? watch anything else honestly. honest to god watch ghost hound instead. if you want something melancholic to "vibe" to as the gen z's say. if you're not really into anime ghost hound also has a dub probably so there's that.
also watch shiki if you want more of a horror thing but still some creepydark tones.
there's also claymore if you want to lean even further into a fantasy/gore side, or if you really want some mechs and something still a little more generic and fun to watch there's straight up just full metal panic. can't go fuckinig wrong with full metal.

watch all those and then rate eva again cuz, i liked eva but it just kind of reveals how little you've watched or actually paid any attention to by adding to the lucky star/eva blackhole that is most of this website/tiktok etc.
but what i shared are some i watched before i got to eva and eva never left the impression on me that people started randomly getting in like 2016. i guess that's when that movie came out and maybe a lot of people were introduced to it through that but dang it's honestly just garbage that advertises itself at this point. like a huge marketing campaign in japan from like 30 years ago that eventually tricks westerners into thinking it's hot shit when really it's just plain generic ass to most seasoned watchers in japan and abroad. wish i didn't have to see that stuff even on a smaller site like this it gets so annoying to just see the same spam that gets billions of likes on every other platform but instead it's also cropping up in a tiny place like this where you could literally post anything else and dive even deeper or be creative

If you want the full depression experience and want to see one of the bigger influences the show took from, go watch Ideon after it (and, in the same vein as Eva, watch the movie instead of the last episode, or at least immediately after seeing the last episode).
Ideon is a fucking trip man, even if the troubled production means some of it is very rough, and I think Cosmo is kind of a little shit.

I watched Eva when I was a depressed teen. It was unironically great. Eva is one of those shows that are best watched during a certain head space, which is why I think people who watch Eva and hate Shinji aren't wrong but aren't right either. You just gotta be in that head space to best empathize with it.
More than a decade later, when I got into a better mental place, I binge-watched the rebuild series. And that was great too. It's very obvious Ano made Eva when he was depressed, and when Ano became a happier person, he rebuilt Eva in his new image
