Is anyone else watching Sayonara Lara?
What do you think of it so far?
I just started, but i'm around episode 6 so far.
I like it so far, i hope it will become actual yuri, the boxing girl is kinda cute.

I'm caught up waiting on the last episode. it's the best anime this season imo. I'm so impressed by kinema citoris. I honestly didn't expect to love it I expected it to just be playing on the Japanese Disney fetish but it strokes a nice balance of Disney and it's own identity

I'm loving it, it's my favourite anime this year. It looks amazing, the sound direction's amazing, every episode manages to make me invested.
I have watched all episodes so far, but I've avoided discussion of the latest one because supposedly somewhere in Japan they aired both ep 11 and 12 together and I want to avoid spoilers from episode 12.

Okay the ending was ultra retarded. Par for the course for an original, I guess.
Sage so it doesn't show up in front page and I don't have to think about this shit any more.

I think the finale was okay, and overall I liked the anime. I wasn't sure on the meaning of the ending entirely, but someone suggested Lara gave up her love to become human and save Mari, which would certainly explain her seeming coldness at the end. However, I feel this could have maybe have been better expressed. Without a doubt, it was a very nihilistic ending, worse than bittersweet, because of how empty Lara seems and contrasted with how full of life things felt before, so it's no wonder it was poorly received (I don't have a high opinion of people who seem to really HAET it, however, they seem kind of stupid). (Unfortunately, discussion on BBS is also mired in the usual shitflinging that happens with "yuri anime", but that's neither here nor there.)

Absolutely gorgeous anime though, definitely the best this season, which is saying something given stuff like Jaadugar.

>someone suggested Lara gave up her love to become human and save Mari

ugh i could see that but it's so stupid... it reallllly just doesn't make sense to me that she would leave everyone and the town she loved behind for ???? like they could have at least gestured at something she's heading toward?
>>
Yeah, that's part of what I don't like is that she just leaves, even if that makes sense too. She wants to see the world that she loves that has Mari in it which she loves... but not with Mari? Even if she no longer has the love she felt as a mermaid, which is supposed to be way more powerful than a human's love, and that contrast makes her feel dead inside (like coming down from a strong high), why not be with Mari, who loves you? It's pretty selfish (heh), honestly. Granted, she's been selfish (hoho) from the start, but still.

But that's okay. Mari can just hang out with me instead.

maybe they are actually homophobic and just wanted to drive the point home that you can't get gay married so why bother!

*I suppose it's also worth noting that it does imply/suggest she'll come back, but man, the way it's set it feels like Mari will be in college by the time that happens.
