Since there are new staff-san enforcing it, and several users making a lot of assumptions about it in recent months, I think it's a good time to reaffirm what Rule 8 is and why it exists

Rule 8 is primarily intended to keep out (roughly) 2008+ Western internet culture - whether it's 4chan, 8chan, Tumblr, Reddit, Twitch, iFunny, or wherever - particularly when it's something commonly used for trolling, derailing, insulting, or instigating flame wars

It's purpose is 1. to allow Heyuri to be its own thing and cultivate a culture of creativity, and 2. to keep the eternally grumpy and shitstirring kinds of "anons" away, so we can better enjoy our LOLs and discussions without Heyuri becoming yet another neverending internet bitchfest, or becoming a semi-abandoned shithole where every other post is just the word "nigger" with a Pepe reaction image dark

It is not a rule against "everything new" nor "things I personally don't liek". You can discuss new things on Heyuri, and Heyuri does not ban entire niches and fields of interest just because they are "new" or are unpopular with the users of other websites - especially if those things are Japanese in origin

I'd also like to explain Rule 8.d specifically, since it's frequently incorrectly invoked by n00bs these days and could do with being rewritten (again...)

Firstly, back in 2020 it simply said "Ironic shitposting.", and by 2021 it said "Shitposting & and "nu-irony".". Then in 2022 - due to a lot of our n00bs at that time not knowing what shitposting nor ironic shitposting were (which they shouldn't be expected to know, since they're borderline Rule 8 to begin with) - it was changed to it's current form of "Posts intended to annoy or enrage other users without even having the decency to provide LOLs ー most of "nu-4chan" kind of posts fall under this point."

Basically, it was our attempt at saying "ironic shitposting" without saying "ironic shitposting" xd

So rather than it being a rule against things you are offended by, or against users joking around, it was supposed to be targetting things like the old "WHATA FUCK MAN xD i just fall of my chair kuz i couldnt and i CANT stop laugh xDXDXDXDXDDDDDDDDDDDDXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD" and "t3h PeNgU1N oF d00m!!!!!!!!" copypastas, generic "HURR DURR" responses, etc. that completely took over and ruined many threads on 4chan and other places in the late 2000s and early 2010s, killing off much of the fun-oriented internet culture of old that Heyuri sought to revive and embrace
