It's more like a personality twittercore heisei moe people and some furries use to make themselves appear more intelligent. Most old computer hoarders don't know what to do with their vintage junk, so they just let their thrift store findings rot in the basement.
In my experience, furries are really into old macs, while weebs like old win9x shitboxes and early 90s era PCs manufactured by NEC.
