This affected a lot of the internet, but 4chan in particular went from being edgy
for teh lulz
to being edgy just to piss people off, regardless of whether or not it was in fact lulzy. It's always angry there now, there's always an argument, you're always fighting with someone who is deliberately replying in a way to avert actually talking about things since it keeps people responding (in anger). Comics and OC went from funny faces to literally the ugliest things I've seen in my life. No more "trolling", now it's "bait" -- posting anything to get any engagement whatsoever, especially since a well thought out reply will just be ignored.
you could totally talk about how bad old 4chan could be and go on for hours if not days, but goddamn, if you see how
