historically, people got a new machine because it was a clear, definite improvement due to the sheer rate of advancement - until 2010 or so, a two year hardware gap was an insane chasm unless you spent way too much future proofing it
but when a 7 year old machine is still more than keeping up with modern computing tasks, being forced into a new one is some bullshit
