Gunbuster is a ton of fun, even if the pacing is kinda rough. Definitely recommended.
It isn't a long watch, 6 episode OVA.

The sequel Diebuster is kinda shit at best (Lal'c is cute at least) and a lot of people outright state that it doesn't exist as a result -- I don't think it's that bad, but it sure isn't a good followup.
